Tecmo Super Bowl
Review by peach freak
"Never have I played a better football game...."
Techmo Super Bowl is one of the early football games out there. After seeing my uncle playing, it looked really funny and such and laughed my head off. After playing it myself, I regret doing all of that and found it to be one of the best, if not the best football game out there, and one of my favorite SNES games too.
Graphics 9/10
Oh come on, this is a Super Nintendo game. You can't expect Madden 2005 graphics out of this. For a Super Nintendo these graphics are great. Instead of a field going up/down in later football games, it goes sideways from left to right. Everything is so colorful and easy to see. Team logos look just what they look like today, and the fields look just like a football field too. There are the yard lines and you'll know where the balls are. Players don't look too bad on the field and cheerleaders at least have dance moves. Another interesting thing in this game is being able to customize the weather to be clear, rain, or snow, and it does look pretty realistic.
Gameplay: 10/10
This is the real fun of the game. You can select any team you want in the NFL and play whoever you want in the pre-season games. In the season, you will go through there own schedules and you are trying to win the super bowl as well. Another thing is that this game has plenty of the football rules today, such as turnovers, fumbles, interceptions, and the like. The funny thing is that there are no two-point conversions or flags thrown on plays which doesn't affect the game one bit for me. The game is pretty fun and you have 8 plays to choose from by default (4 rushing, 4 throwing) and they are pretty easy to understand too. This is one of the football games I have played I had so much fun on. More humor in this game is the halftime shows which are funny to watch sometimes.
Controls: 8/10
The controls in this game aren't bad to use either. You use the D-Pad to control your player and the button combination to select your play. On a throwing play, throwing it isn't that hard and you just need to press the X button to change the person to throw it too. Once you have the controls easily memorized, you can become a great player at this game in no time.
Sound Effects: 8/10
Another real fun part of the game. During a play, quarterbacks usually say random stuff that doesn't go with your play but that doesn't really matter. The referees in this game talk too and say stuff like "First down" or "It's good" and they have the right body languages for calls too (like when they raise their hands meaning it's good for an extra point or field goal). Another good part is that the time will make sounds when you are low on time so you'll know what to do in the final run. These sound effects are pretty good.
Music: 10/10
The music in this game was just outstanding, but the first time I saw someone play this game I really laughed at the music. But now it is funny and cool. I like the music for when your offense or their offense has the ball, and the music for getting a touchdown. The music in halftime shows is nice and everything else is just awesome too.
Replayability: 9/10
This game is really fun playing over and over again. For the pre-season games, you can select any team combination you want which is fun, and you can be a different team during the season. You can also replay this game again to get better, have fun, try out new plays and such. I have never gotten tired of this game and I have had a lot of fun with it.
Worth Buying?
If you are a football fan yes by all means. This game is really fun and it would be nice buying it if you saw it on the shelves at your local game store. If you still can't find it, Ebay is your friend. Another thing is if you're new to football try other games first and maybe you could try this out.
