Saturday Night Slam Masters
Review by D-Generate99
"A decent attempt at a wrasslin game by Capcom"
Everyone knows Capcom: that great company that can easily whip up a great fighting game. So not surprisingly Saturday Night Slam Masters has a hint of fighting in it.
Graphics: 8/10
The in game graphics are pretty good but the character selection graphics are awful. Especially Titanic Tim. The game includes ring entrances, entrance music and a crowd, although the crowd is just the same people copy-and-pasted so that there are rows of people. The view is side on..not the greatest camera angle, but its on the SNES so who cares? Little 'explosions' ala the Tekken series appear when you hit your opponent so the game has a real arcade feel.
The bad thing is that some of the costumes are re-used, like Rasta's and Grater's, and Biff's nd Gunloc's.
Gameplay: 8/10
Don't expect anything like SFPWXP or WWF WM2k, this game is real arcady (how do you spell that?). Tap left or right twice to run, Y to attack, A to pin and B to jump. You only used pin at the end, so thats 2 buttons. Hmmm.
Pulling off moves is not as easy as Smackdown (a great game) or WrestleMania. The finishers are pulled off in weird as ways, and on of El Stingray's special attacks is the same as Hadouken (down, forward punch). Generally, each wrestler has various normal moves and 3 or 4 power moves, eg. Titan's choke slam, Stingray's downward scissors, Gunloc's 'power pin slam' aka Jackhammer and Biff's piledriver.
The bad thing? Biff and Gunloc have virtually the same move sets. There are a few TINY differences, eg. Gunloc has a fisherman suplex and Biff has a night lights suplex (or is it northern lights suplex?). They have the same finisher, but with different names (Head Rocker and Gut Crusher). All the finishers are very original and really look like they hurt. They're very unrealistic too.
There are 2 game modes: single 'road to championship and defence' mode and team 'road to championship and defence' battle royal. it's a battle royal with tag teams, so all 4 people are in the ring and you juts brawl. You can't hit your partner tho. One heck of a weird mode.
Sound: 7/10
Grunts, impact noises, ring vibrations, ref's counts, entrance music and the bell and the crowd. Thats it. Also, a really annoying shout that happens whenever you choose a character.
Replay: 7/10
Gets boring after a while. you go around the world taking part in matches and one you win all of them you win the title. Then you must defend it, and when you win then the game ends. Hmm.
Overall: 8/10
Nice only attempt at a wrestling title by Capcom. Nice visuals, but don't spend more than $50 (Australian dollara..hehehe) on it. Or just rent it.
