Rock 'N Roll Racing
Review by KnightsoftheRound
"One of Blizzard's best games should not be forgotten."
Rock 'N Roll Racing is an early racing game from Blizzard. You may know Blizzard as the creator of classic games such as Starcraft, the Diablo series, and the Warcraft series. Rock 'N Roll Racing is personally, one of my favorite games from Blizzard.
Story:
Well, there isn't really much of a story in this game. You go around and you race on different planets, against different racers.
Gameplay:
This is the fun part of Rock 'N Roll Racing. At the start of the game you have a weak car, that can be blown up easily and isn't that great. But once you start winning races you get a bunch of cash as prize money. Once you get enough prize money you can start purchasing upgrades for your vehicle. You can purchase new vehicles as well. The things you can buy are, traction upgrades, armor upgrades, weapon upgrades and many other things that will help lead you to victory. If you have ever played Mario Kart then you will know how this game works. You race around a track using weapons to blow up your enemies and you must cross the finish line first. The most cars on a track is 4, including you.
Graphics:
The graphics in Rock 'N Roll racing are pretty good. The tracks are decent looking and the cars animate nicely. The game also has a very smooth framerate to it. The tracks also come in some pretty cool varieties. These are some of the best SNES graphics.
Sound:
I don't think I would ever get sick of the songs in this game. The game is called Rock 'N Roll Racing, so what do you expect from the music department? One of Ozzy's songs even made it's way into this game. The music is great, the explosions sound cool, the weapons sound cool, and the cars sound great. The only thing that isn't that great is the announcer which can get annoying but he is generally pretty forgettable.
Value:
This game has got great value. It's a fun racer, that you will always go back to play. Even if you don't play for long periods of time, it's fun to just sit down with it for even 10 or 15 minutes to just race around a couple tracks to get your old school racing fix. The game is also pretty fun with the new cars, weapons and upgrades.
Score:
Gameplay: 9
Graphics: 10
Sound: 8.5
Value: 10
Tilt: 9
Overall: 9.3
Rock 'N Roll Racing is a really fun racing game, with plenty of action to keep you interested in this old school racing game for along time. If you can find it for SNES you should definitely pick it up. Or, if you can't find it for your SNES, you can always look for it on GBA since it was ported in 2003 to the GBA, so it shouldn't be to hard to find, at least for the GBA.
