Frogger

"Not a very good port"

Ok, this is what I don't get. The original Frogger wasn't very good. It had simple game play that wasn't much fun and the levels were way too simplistic. I, obviously, wasn't to impressed with the original Frogger. I'm sure there are lots of other people who agree on this, so I ask you this. Why would a gaming company make a direct port of it? Yeah, that's right, a direct port of Frogger. Now, the thing that gets me as when this game was released, compared to how much it sucked. This game came out in 1998! When there were basically no games being made for the SNES and the PSX and N64 were taking over. The poor graphics, sound, and game play would be fine if this game was released in the 80's.

The object of the game is to move your frog across the street and across the river without getting smashed, falling in the water, or running out of time. There are five holes in the wall at the other end of the screen that you have to move your frog into. Once you get into one hole, you will get a new frog and try to get him into the next hole. Once you get all five holes filled, you continue to the next level. To threaten your safety of getting to the other side, there are cars, snakes, and turtles, just like in the original, and you can't fall in the water.

In Frogger, you may have noticed another frog on a log or a fly in one of the five holes. If you get one of the frogs on a log and bring it to a hole, you will get double points. If you get a fly it is worth two-hundred points.

Graphics
For being made in 1998 the graphics were just horrible. I am sorry but they were just sad. We had already seen Super Mario RPG's graphics which was released years before, so we knew what the Super Nintendo was capable of. And a few years later, the developers could have done better.

Sound
Oh jeez. I can't really say much about the sounds. There is absolutely NO background music. Never. Not on the title screen, while playing, game over, nothing. It is pathetic. Though I wish they had put background music, I think they should have taken out the sound effects. They are just annoying. Every time you move you hear a springy noise that really gets annoying.

Game Play
This game is awful. It is no fun at all. While jumping into a hole at the end of a level, if you don't do it exactly right you won't get squished against the wall and will die. Sometimes when you are going from log to log, you can jump to the end of it, but others you will fall right off. I could think this game is horrible because I never really got into the Frogger craze.

Replay Value
Really there is no replay value. This game is absolutely no fun. I'd rather nail my nose to an escalator than play this game. It is just horrible. The graphics and sound are just annoying, and usually I can care less about those components.

Overall
I honestly can't stand this game. For any given system this is the worst port ever! It could be that I never got into Frogger, or it could just be the bad sound, graphics, and game play. I think that it a fair battle, don't you?
