Super Baseball 2020
Review by eolsen
"Robots + Baseball = no no!"
Baseball, as we know it, no longer exists in the year 2020. For years, the omnipotent Super Baseball Association has been making a fortune using robotic power players against the best and strongest athletes. SBA has secretly manipulated the computer-controlled abilities of certain robotic players in order to control the outcome of the games. After discovering SBA's cheating, fans disconnected parts of the computers in order to achieve fair and challenging games. Playing in the famed Cyber Egg Stadium, the games may now continue on a fair and equal basis. Super Baseball is a cyber-game conceived by the SBA while seeking the ultimate in pro sports. The twelve teams represented hail from countries around the world and each has developed reinforced protectors based on strictly defined regulations. The teams clash in the custom-built Cyber Egg Stadium which, together with a new set of rules, provides the ultimate showcase for the power and speed of players who exceed the limitations of my beings. Super Baseball 2020...only power and skill will determine the winner.
When you start the game you can choose from six teams from a league called the Exciting League or the Fighting League. In the Exciting League there is American Dreams, Naples Seagulls, Tokyo Samurais, Taiwan Megapowers, Korea Dragoon, and Battle Angels. In the Fighting League there is Battle Heroes, Metal Slashers, Ninja Black Sox, Tropical Girls, Aussie Battlers, and the Mechanical Brains.
Graphics: 6/10
Graphically the game wasn't too impressive. The futuristic stuff in this game looked pretty good though. The detail level was pretty average for the SNES.
Sound: 3/10
There is almost no music in this game except for the main menu music. It has pretty cool music for the main menu. The sound effects are pretty lame. All you hear in this game is the bat hitting a ball and the crowd cheering. Nothing special at all.
Control: 4/10
Very bad. It is extremely hard to throw the ball to the right base. It is very hard to remember the buttons to throw, hit, bunt, steal, and so on. Like in any baseball game there are so many controls it is hard to remember them all. But controlling a pitch is very easy. Just by moving the direction pad you can easily control your pitch. Yet it is very easy to catch a fly ball. Your character is automatically placed where the ball will land. The only way to screw up is to move. This feature may seem good to some people but to me it takes all the fun out of fielding and making a fly ball to right field for the hitter a bad thing.
Fun Factor: 4/10
I generally like baseball games, but this one did not tickle my fancy. Like I said before, the fielding is very easy. Not having to move around and actually work to get a ball in my opinion takes a lot of fun out of a game. The rest of the game is fairly fun. It is definitely not the best baseball game I have ever played. But is moderately fun to play with friends.
Replay Value: 5/10
I think I bought this game for two dollars. In my opinion, that is a good deal for any game good or bad. I think I played this game about twice, and will probably never play it again. It's just really cheesy and there are tons of baseball games better games than this one.
Overall: 3/10
I think I was just expecting too much from this game
Good Points:
-Pretty good graphics
-SOME decent control
-At Least you didn't spend more than ten bucks
Bad Points:
-Lame
-Easy fielding
-not too fun
