T2: The Arcade Game
Review by eolsen
"I groaned while playing..."
You know what I would have liked to see? The people who made this game, sitting in a room, brainstorming after making this game. I couldn't imagine any one of them actually saying that this is the next big game to sweep the market. This game is definitely one of the worst game I have out of the about one hundred Super Nintendo games.
You are a soldier in Los Angeles in the near future where a bunch of robots that all look exactly the same come walking towards you and you have to shoot them. This is your basic side-scrolling shooter. A few of the levels are actually from the movie T2, but most of them just seem like scenes from the prelude to the whole Terminator series.
In this game you can obtain a few different weapons and quite a few items, which I have no idea to this day what they do. And the worst thing about your weapon is they slowly get overheated, then shoot very slowly and take a long time to get unoverheated. The controls for this game are very hard and some enemies that are a threat to you, you can't hit until they are a certain distance away from you.
At some parts of the levels you get the little help of a few human comrades, which are more of a nuisance than a service to you. When you hit them they make the most annoying scream, and take massive points off of your final score.
There is no way to save your game and you only get five or so continues until the game is over. I've been playing this game for a long time, and still don't know how to get past the third level, which has caused me tons of frustration. I've killed all the enemies, but it still says that I didn't make the cut.
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics aren't horrible for the Super Nintendo. Most of the game is a fast paced side scroller and was pretty well done. However, most of the enemies look very similar to each other and get pretty monotonous. The enemies were nicely animated, which is usually a flaw in the graphics in games where the enemies walk towards you.
Sound: 5/10
T2 had a decent amount and quality of sounds. There were plenty of good explosion and gunfire sound effects, and some interesting music, but nothing really too exciting.
Game Play: 4/10
Well, you aim the cursor with a mouse, Super Scope, or regular controller. The controlling isn't perfect, but also isn't that bad. The problem with this game is that it is way too hard. I can't even get past the third level. Even playing two players it is way too hard.
Fun Factor: 1/10
Too hard. Way too hard. This game has probably caused me the most frustration of any game I've ever played and the least fun. At first this game isn't that bad, but the third level is a doosey, and will certainly cause every experienced gamer troubles. To this date I've never really figured out what exactly I have to do to beat it.
Final Score: 1/10
Though the graphics and sound were decent, the rest of the game is terrible. I wouldn't recommend buying it even if you liked other Terminator games or the movies. I don't score many games a one in reviews, but this game definitely earned it.
