Welcome to my second FAQ here on GameFAQs. Europe and Australia didn't get
screwed over with this title, as we get it first! With this head-start, I
decided to make this FAQ so that there'd actually be one. There are a few
things I'd understand people may be confused about.
#####################
#A. WTF is wii play?#
#####################
Wii play is sort of like wii sports. You have it split up in to a few mini
games (in this case, 9.) that only take 3 minutes or so to play. It's quite
entertaining, but more of a learning process, for people who want to play the
wii better.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. The games
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that we all know what I'm talking about, I'll start the FAQ. If you're
reading this after just starting up the game for the first time, then you'll
only have one game unlocked:
###################
#A. Shooting range#
###################
Shooting range. An obvious homage to duck hunt. In this game, as the title
suggests, you have to hold the wiimote like a gun and shoot some targets.
Although Nintendo makes it a bit deeper with the 5 very different levels,
that's pretty much all it is.
*i. Strategy*
This all comes down to skill, really. But there are a few pointers I can give
you to gain those last points you need for a platinum medal.
For levels 1 and 2, it's very important to never miss. After shooting 4
targets without missing, you gain an extra point for every target you hit
without missing.
After level 2, don't worry too much about accuracy, although it's still a bit
important if you always score a few points shy of platinum.
.a. .Level 1.
Baloons give more points if shot in order of colour. (eg. If there are 2 red
baloons and a blue one, shoot the blue, then the two red.) It's only a few
points, but it adds up to six extra points if you do everything correctly.
Don't miss the duck! It gives 10 points. Listen for a woof, that's a dog
scaring it out of the grassy area.
Shoot the baloons in this order:
Red Blue Yellow
Yellow Yellow Red Red Blue
Blue Yellow Red Blue DUCK!!! Yellow Red Blue Blue Yellow Red Red Yellow
That's 36 points. Not much, but you also have 16 in bonus accuracy points.
.b. .Level 2.
Shoot the targets in the order they appear, so the early ones don't disappear
while shooting the later ones.
Never miss. This shouldn't be too hard with large non-moving targets.
Remember the duck! It gives 10 points. Listen for a woof.
Don't shoot your own face. It sometimes appears and shooting it does this:
You lose 3 points and your combo is stopped so you have to start a new one.
Gold targets are worth 10. Shoot them before the earliest grey target.
The targets appear like this:
About 15 random ones.
About 24 appearing in a pattern, with a gold one at the end.
About 15 random ones.
9 appearing in rows of 3. 2 rows of grey targets, and one with a gold target
and 2 faces. The duck appears here! Sacrifice your chance to hit the grey
targets and go for the gold and the duck!
2 very quickly appearing, then disappearing. A face and a gold target.
That should be another 100 you got there. Now your accuracy bonus should be
up to about 80 hits! 75 points!
36 + 100 + 75 = About 210 so far.
.c. .Level 3.
Shooting the discs late means they're smaller and give 3 points.
Shooting the discs EARLY means they're bigger and give 5 points.
About 20 discs will fly away from you, like in clay pigeon shooting, and you
have to shoot as many as possible. A duck will appear somewhere in the
middle, after a woof.
210 + maybe 5 accuracy bonus + 5 X 20 = 315.
You may have a little less if you didn't shoot the discs fast enough.
.d. .Level 4.
Tin cans are worth more every time they're hit. Missing one completely means
you miss out on 15 points.
Tin cans fall faster every time they're hit.
Try to miss infrequently. Tin cans aren't too hard to hit.
About 10 cans will fly in the air.
One can at a time about 3 times
DUCK!!! I think.
Two cans at a time about 2 times
Three cans at a time
315 + 100 (You're bound to miss a few) + 10 accuracy = 425
.e. .Level 5.
The final level! And the highest scoring one too.
UFOs are worth 3 points. Gold ones are worth 5.
Every mii that you keep un-abducted gives 10 points.
For accuracy purposes, don't shoot UFOs until they have a mii in their
tractor beam. That's when they're easiest to hit.
Shooting miis doesn't kill them or make you lose points.
Try to save all miis. It's 10 points your missing out on.
There are two ducks this time! Shoot them both for a nice 30 points!
UFOs randomly appear about 20 times, followed by...
OMFGINVASION 6 gold ones at a time! They get the miis quickly so shoot them
down even faster.
425 + 6 miis saved (60) + 20 random UFOs (70) + 6 gold UFOs (30) + at least
one duck (15) = 600 points! Well done. Platinum'd!
*ii. Medals*
You get a bronze at about 150.
A silver at about 300.
A gold at about 450.
A platinum at 600.
You beat me if you manage to get more than 619.
#############
#B. Find mii#
#############
Find mii, the wii's answer to where's wally/waldo/whatever. Find the mii(s)
the game's asking for to gain 10 seconds. Fail to do so and you lose 5 for
every mii you incorrectly press.
Run out of time and the game is over.
*i. Strategy*
If you want to be a little sneaky, make about 30 miis that all look VERY
different, as they will show up in your game and making finding them very
easy.
Only press A if the mii you want has a big head. If it doesn't, it means that
you're not selecting it, but a mii beside it instead.
It helps if you can spot you miis features quickly, as one of the missions
requires you to find it.
Clothes don't matter. Only the face.
In missions where you have to find more than one mii, you only get seconds
when you select the last one. You can also cancel a selection by pressing A
on a slected mii.
*ii. Medals*
20 missions will give you a bronze.
30 to beat me D:
About 40 for a silver.
I assume about 60 for a gold.
And 80 for a platinum would make sence...
*iii. Mission list*
Find X lookalikes!
Find 2 or 3 miis that are completly identical. If they're walking/swimming
about, remember that they may wrap around and give yu the impression that
there's two of them.
Find X odd miis out!
Find 2 or 3 miis in a crowd that are looking the wrong way. (eg. If
everyone's facing right except for 3 that are facing left, choose the 3 that
are facing left.)
Find the odd mii out!
Thanks to x-hundred people who told me that it's who's leading with the
wrong foot that's the odd one.
Find the X sleepyheads!
Everyone will be looking around, except for 2 or 3, who will be asleep. Wake
them up by pressing A on them.
Find the sleepyhead!
8-16 miis will be looking around in the dark except for one, who will be
asleep. Find it (your pointer is also a torch in this one) and then press
A on it to wake it up.
Choose a favorite!
Just choose one you think you'll remember.
Find your favorite!
Find the one you chose earlier.
Find this mii: XXXXXXX
Find the mii named XXXXXX. It will give you a mugshot of it beforehand.
Find your mii!
Find the mii you're using. You should be able to spot yourself.
#################
#C. Table tennis#
#################
It's simple. Just rally with your opponent. It starts off working with you,
but after shot 30 it'll try to end the rally. After 60, you'll actually need
some skill.
Miss once and the game is over. It will stop at 100 hits, unless you've
reached 100 before, then it will keep going.
*i. Strategy*
Move to the middle after every shot.
Don't worry about beating your opponent. It's a pro.
Try to guess where it will hit the ball next. As you get further it sort of
goes in to a left-right-left-right pattern.
*ii. Medals*
(about) 40 for bronze
60 for silver
Ninety-****ing-nine to beat me
100 for gold
200 for platinum
#############
#D. Pose mii#
#############
Bubbles are falling from the sky and you have to stop them by posing your
character in to the position described on the bubble, then position yourself
inside the bubble in that pose. What an interesting plot!
Miss 3 bubbles, and the world is destroyed or something like that.
*i. Strategy*
If there are lots of bubbles, don't panic. There may be a freeze bubble. Look
for a bubble that's not coloured blue and then go inside it to freeze all of
the other bubbles.
Some bubbles spin while they're falling. Pay attention.
Go to the spread-eagle position (you know, the middle one) if there are no
bubbles on later levels. This allows you to switch to any other
position very quickly.
In early levels, all bubbles will be in the same pose, so never switch.
In middle levels, there will only be 2 different bubble poses, so switch
only when needed.
In late levels, all 3 will be used, and they'll spin as they're falling, so
be on your toes.
Stay near the bottom on later levels, the spawn point for bubbles keeps
getting lower and lower.
Remember that your mii rotates about 3.5 times faster than your wiimote.
Missing no bubbles means you get (level X 5) bonus points.
*ii. Medals*
Bronze will be awarded for people who manage to get about 400 points.
600 for silver.
750 to beat me.
800 for gold.
1200 for platinum O_o
(Which is also just under a perfect score. Just a tiny bit too difficult.)
#################
#E. Laser Hockey#
#################
Beat your opponent at on of the oldest games in history! Pong.
The game ends after 2 mins. If you lose, then your score isn't recorded.
*i. Strategy*
Try to bounce it off the bottom wall in to the opponent's goal for the first
few goals. As it gets harder you may want to try something more complex.
Stay back unless hitting the ball. If it gets more goals than you, even if
you got 20, your score is reduced to zero. Staying back will prevent this.
Sometimes the best strategy is to leave it all down to luck in the lategame.
What I mean is stay near the back and attack with the sides of your paddle.
This will make it get very few goals and you might get 2 or 3 if you're
lucky.
*ii. Medals*
Win, and get 4 goals to get a bronze.
Win, and get 8 goals to get a silver.
Win, and get 10 goals to beat me.
Win, and get 12 goals to get a gold.
Win, and get 16 goals to get a platinum.
##############
#F. Billiards#
##############
9 ball pool. Sink them all with as few shots as possible!
The game ends once you've sunk all 9.
*i. Strategy*
A is your friend. Use it oftenly to check if the point of impact, ball, and
pocket all line up. If they do, then the ball you hit will go right in the
pocket.
You lose three points per foul. So try not to foul.
The less shots you take, the more points you get, so if it will save you two
shots by doing a foul, do it. (eg. You could sink the 3, but it would take 2
shots. You have a very easy 4 shot though, and that would make the 3 easier
to hit, so you sink the 4, fouling, but sinking one of the balls.)
The break is important. The first shot should sink two.
*ii. Medals*
For bronze, try to get 20 points.
35 for silver.
47 to beat me.
50 for gold.
60 for platinum.
############
#G. Fishing#
############
Fishing for paper fish, anyone?
Once about 2 mins has passed, your game ends.
*i. Strategy*
Remember my handy little fish list to see which fish are worth more, even
if another fish has a bonus on it.
ALMOST always go for bonus fish.
The king of the pond is always a bonus fish when it first enters. If you
don't catch it while it's in bonus, then you pretty much lose all hope of a
platinum there and then.
All fish nibble the hook before biting except for ones worth negative points
(and the mystery fish), so if you suddenly have your hook being dragged
about, assume it's a bad fish (unless you see a mystery fish) and don't flick
the wiimote up.
*ii. Medals*
1000 points is needed for bronze.
1500 points is needed for silver.
2000 points is needed for gold.
2500 points is needed for platinum.
My personal best is 2550.
*iii. Fish list*
In order of how many points you get for them...
Small fry Doesn't nibble. -50 Very small grey fish.
Plain ol' fish Nibbles 1-2 times 50-60 Small green fish.
Bonus PoF Nibbles 1-2 times 100-120 Small green fish.
Nibbler Nibbles 2-3 times 100-120 Yellow fish.
Touchy Fish Nibbles 2-3 times 180-200 Red fish.
Bonus Nibbler Nibbles 2-3 times 200-240 Yellow fish.
Mystery fish Doesn't nibble. 250 Weird snouted fish.
King of the pond Nibbles loudly x4 330-350 Huge purple fish.
Bonus Touchy fish Nibbles 2-3 times 360-400 Red fish
Bonus Mystery fish Doesn't nibble 500 Weird snouted fish.
Bonus KotP Nibbles loudly x4 660-700 Huge purple fish.
Small frys drag you around after biting.
Plain ol' fish do nothing special.
Nibblers do nothing special.
Touchy fish swim away from your hook on the first attempt to catch it.
Mystery fish disappear if not caught in the first 10 seconds of it's stay.
Kings of the pond are always bonus fish when they first arrive, and only
appear once per game.
Remember that plain ol fish are worth less than all other 'good' fish, even
when in bonus. Never catch one intentionally.
############
#H. Charge!#
############
Who needs cars when you can 'drive' a COW!? Knock down all the obsticles, but
try to get to the finish line as well.
The game finishes after getting to the finish line, or 90 seconds. Whichever
comes first.
NOTE: You'll have to hold the wiimote on it's side for this one. Make sure
the d-pad is on the left. To go forward, tilt it so the buttons are facing
your TV. To brake, tilt it so the buttons are facing you. To turn, tilt the
wiimote left or right.
*i. Strategy*
Taking time to knock down scarecrows gives far more points than trying to
finish quickly.
Your score is reduced to zero if you don't finish, so make sure you don't
keep stopping for scarecrows. Get them on the way.
Stay on the path. You lose valuable time if you don't.
King scarecrows are worth slightly more than paths of scarecrows, at 10
points.
Turning heavily reduces speed to about 25%. Turn lightly.
*ii. Medals*
100 for bronze.
200 for silver.
300 for gold.
304 is my best.
320 or 315 for platinum. (Thanks to the 30 or so people who emailed me)
###########
#I. Tanks!#
###########
You're the last tank in your army (or something like that) and you need to
destroy all the other tanks alone. You can't do that. But how close to it can
you get?
If you do beat level 20, don't get too cocky. There are more levels next time,
a la table tennis.
The game finishes if your tank gets destroyed 3 times.
*i. Strategy*
Some tanks fire rockets, not shells. These are hard to avoid, so shoot the
rockets before anything else.
Never get in to a one-sided fight. Finish the tanks on at a time.
Reflect shells off walls to outsmart opponents. Especially immobile ones.
Fire a shell directly at a tank, then where you think it will be when your
shell gets in range. The first one will destroy the shell they fire at you,
and the second will destroy the tank.
You can only have 5 shells flying at a time, but opponents can usually only
fire 1-2.
.a. .Level 1.
You don't need my help for this one...
Fine. Run up to the brown tank then fire 5 shells at it.
.b. .Level 2.
Drive up to the 'lane' the grey tank is in, then fire 5 shells at it. One
directly at it and the other 4 around it so it can't dodge out of the way.
.c. .Level 3.
Use the same 5 shell pattern to kill these grey tanks [WATCH OUT FOR YOUR
OWN SHELLS BACKFIRING] and then take out the brown tank.
.d. .Level 4.
Destroy the brown tanks, dodge any shells coming your way, then use a spread
pattern to kill the grey tanks.
.e. .Level 5.
Drive upwards for cover, then when the rockets are gone, drive left a bit and
practice reflecting shots at them. If they refuse to get in range of a
reflecting shot, then fight them ONE AT A TIME and remember to destroy the
rockets they fire.
.f. .Level 6.
Drive downwards, shooting all rockets flying towards you, then when your at
the bottom, use the spread pattern to take out any grey tanks, and the "fire
at rockets, then them" strategy for teal tanks. Once the bottom's been
cleared out, work your way to the top with these strategies in mind.
.g. .Level 7.
Destroy the bottom teal tank in regular fashion, then move up to avoid the
other 3. The tanks will either:
Split up
Destroy them all one at a time.
Go to the top together
Go in to the middle and reflect against the north wall to hit them.
.h. .Level 8.
I'll do this when I'm not so busy playing TP, playing monkey ball and/or
being lazy in general.
*ii. Medals*
Bronze at 10 tanks destroyed
(That didn't seem too easy to nintendo. Huh.)
(Thanks to 'Sander' and anyone else who pointed out 20 was wrong.)
Silver at 40
My best is 63
Gold at 80, which is pretty close to perfect.
Platinum at 100 (Wow.)
*iii. Tank list*
In order of when you see them...
Brown tank Immobile and fires shells slowly.
Grey tank Moves, but still fires shells slowly.
Teal tank Moves somewhat intelligently, fires rockets.
Yellow tank Moves, deploys mines and fires shells.
Red tank Moves quickly and intelligently and fires shells.
Green tank Immobile, but fires reflecting rockets very intelligently.
Purple tank Moves and fires shells very intelligently and quickly. Oh, and
deploys mines.
White tank Moves, fires many shells quickly and is completely invisible.
Black tank Moves quickly and fires rockets incredibly quickly.
(Thanks to Paul de Vrijer for the white and black tank info)
(Thanks to the other emailers for affirming the white tank stuff)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4. Multiplayer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that you know how to play the games, how do you beat your friends and
rub it in their faces? Here's some minor strategy adjustments to prove
that you're better than them at a 2 minute mini game.
###################
#A. Shooting range#
###################
*i. Notable changes*
Both mii's faces appear in level 2. Shoot your opponents face to gain 3
points. If they shoot it, they lose 3. You get 3 ahead either way!
Both miis appear in level 5. If you save their mii, then you miss out on
having them gain nothing instead of 10 points.
*ii. Tips*
Accuracy stops playing a big part in the game. Just try to steal the targets
away from your opponent's crosshair.
In level 2, leave targets with the opponent's face on it for a while before
shooting it. It's not as though your opponent will shoot it.
In level 5, never save their mii. Even if the UFO stealing them is gold.
In level 4, try to predict where cans will fall next so you can stay near the
top of the screen and shoot them first.
#############
#B. Find mii#
#############
*i. Notable changes*
The game lasts 2 minutes, instead of lasting until you fail.
Getting one of the targets is worth something, even if you don't get the
second and third (in fact, the first is worth more)
It's scored in points, not levels completed.
*ii. Tips*
When there's more than one target, press A on the one that your opponent is
about to choose, then the other target(s).
#################
#C. Table tennis#
#################
*i. Notable changes*
The game doesn't stop after one rally.
You don't want a long rally, you want a short one that ends with you getting
a point.
First to 11 points wins.
*ii. Tips*
Have more skill than your opponent, really.
#############
#D. Pose mii#
#############
*i. Notable changes*
You're sharing your 3 lives with someone.
Some bubbles are red instead of blue or freeze.
Getting a red bubble (if you're blue) gives 2 points instead of 1.
Getting a blue bubble (if you're red) gives 2 points instead of 1.
Getting a freeze bubble freezes your opponent, and all bubbles.
*ii. Tips*
(This is assuming your blue. If you're red then change all red/blue words to
blue/red)
Only go for blue bubbles if they're at the bottom.
Only go for red bubbles if they're at the top.
Always go for freeze bubbles.
If you're winning by (the ammount of lives you have) X 10 points, then never
go for blue bubbles, only red.
#################
#E. Laser Hockey#
#################
*i. Notable changes*
The game ends after 8 goals, assuming you make it that far.
*ii. Tips*
Try confusing shots, the computer will cope, but humans wont.
Be a bit less defensive.
##############
#F. Billiards#
##############
*i. Notable changes*
Shots taken aren't put in the score equation.
Balls are worth 1 point X (the number on the side of the ball)
*ii. Tips*
Try to sink the 7, 8 and 9. The rest don't matter.
Never foul, or at least foul less than your opponent. If you can't make sink
a ball, then try to put the cue ball in a position which will make your
opponent foul.
############
#G. Fishing#
############
*i. Notable changes*
If fish are caught by both people, it's a race to flick it up.
*ii. Tips*
Try to avoid the smaller fish, so if you're trying to catch a big one, the
little ones wont bite instead.
Go for the ones your opponent's going for, if you have better reflexes of
course.
############
#H. Charge!#
############
*i. Notable changes*
The time is far shorter.
King scarecrows are worth 15 points.
*ii. Tips*
Go for king scarecrows, miss scarecrow lines if you have to.
Always be in front of your opponent.
Bump your opponent around if you cant overtake your opponent.
Jumping over the other cow is the best way to overtake it.
###########
#I. Tanks!#
###########
*i. Notable changes*
Some tank starting locations have been moved about.
If both tanks are destroyed, the game ends. If one is, but the other isn't,
then the destroyed tank is brought back to life in the next level.
*ii. Tips*
Frag-Suicide you and your team-mate when winning.
Practice taking the shortest route possible.
It's better to die after killing 3 than to live after killing 1.
Destroy your opponent on levels with lots of easily destroyed tanks.
~~~~~~~~~
5. CFPWAP
~~~~~~~~~
Challenges for people with all platinums. First of all try this:
Flawless scores. Here is a list of the best scores possible.
Shooting range: 776. Maybe 1 or 2 points more.
Find mii: I guess level 100 or something like that.
Table tennis: I guess you can go on forever.
Pose mii: Level 16. About 1205 would be completely perfect.
Laser hockey: 60. One goal every 2 seconds. (Although realisticly, you'd
be very pleased with anything about 25)
Billiards: A 3 ball break then 3 2-sinkers would give about 200 points.
Charge!: 330, or a little higher if you're really fast on that cow.
Tanks!: 83 or 84 (level 20). (Paul de Vrijer says 83, but I also have some
emails for 84 as well.)
In Tanks!, try to get all tanks to destroy themselves. Never fire a shell.
(Except for teal tanks. If you make it that far.)
In Charge!, forget the scarecrows, just try to get to the finish line with 35
seconds to spare.
Can you ace-break billiards? (Not talking about all balls in, just the 9.)
A 16-15 victory in laser hockey is enough for a platinum, but try a win with
a 10 point winning margin.
Make 30 miis that all look identical except for one facial feature. Now get
to level 20 on Find mii.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6. Cheats and other sneaky things
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In laser hockey, hold in A+B while you see your paddle but can't move it at
the start to change both paddles in to circles. This makes the game a bit
easier, aparantly.
Quickly tilt left and forward when the word 'start' shows up to get a little
boost at the start in Charge!
The easiest way I've been told to sink 3 balls in your first shot in
billiards is to aim a little left and then hit the cue ball in the middle
REALLY HARD. If you don't get it, then just restart or accept your 2-sinker
break.
