--- 1. Introduction ---

Hi! And welcome to my Castlevania Walkthrough. The orginal
Castlevania was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System
(NES) in 1986. Taking elements from famous moster moives. As well
as demonic mythos. Castlevania is mainly about going through a
huge castle controlled by the Vampire Lord: Count Dracula. You are
a whip wielder named Simon Belmont, and your goal is to make it
through his labyrinth of horror.

My name is Ryan "jestercolony" Nicholsonand it is my job (by
writing this guide) to help you scale across the walls (and
interior) to slay the demons which lurk within Castle Dracula.
In this guide you will find tricks, secrets, strategies, from
how to use a particular subweapon propperly, or how to defeat
a boss quickly! Now I will honestly admit - Castlevania is no
walk in the park. The game will take a huge amount of practice
(trial/error) So do not get mad if some of these tricks will help
you first hand on. Yes, you might as well even break your
controller/keyboard while playing this game.

So, you're probably wondering what I mean by that. Well, to put it
to a simple terminology: Castlevania can be mild, to extreamly
difficult! Why? Because it's KONAMI!

Now...shall we begain? Then go fourth young vampire hunter. May
you venture on a quest to bestow "old sk00l skillz."

--- 3. About me ---

My name is Ryan Nicholson. I'm 20 years old and I live in
Independence, MO. I am a musician, a poet and a gamer. Right now I
am currently working on my GED and I am about to also attend the
Musical Arts Institute of Independence, MO. So that I can get
prepped to goto UMKC for a degree in music (guitar) and so that
I can also become a music teacher one day.

I'm into alot Stealth, Action and RPG games. I'm not really a big
fan of racing games. But..sometimes I will play them IF I am
extreamly bored. Some of my most favorite game series are:
Castlevania, Contra, Metal Gear Solid, Warcraft, Starcraft,
Final Fantasy, Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Unreal, Half-Life,
Command & Conquer, Metroid, Xenogears, The Legend of Zelda
Gradius, and Zone of the Enders.

Now I'm a casual gamer. And I find writing walkthroughs a form of
entertainment on my behalf. Why? Because I enjoy writing them to
help gamers get through hard parts of the game when they need it!
I'm not writing to start a career as a professional writer.
(Well if I could, I would!) Alas, I am just simply doing this
to pass time. But other than that...that is pretty much it!

...So, you want to get into contact with me, eh? Well look no

Name Hearts Speed Damage

Dagger| 1 Heart | Fast | Weak |

not take as many hearts to use (only 1.)

Holy Water | 1 Heart| Fast| Strong|

The AXe is a good weapon to use aganist
air born enemies. But it's damage is
semi-strong. But it is somewhat slow.

Stop Watch| 3 Hearts | Fast | None|

Insantly stop time for 3 seconds! This

The Best weapon to use in the entire game.
You can throw it at Enemies, and it will

--- 9. Walkthrough ---

|== Stage 1: Entrance ==|

As you start the game you will see Simon walking towards the gate
of Dracula's Cast -le. After that short introduction, continue
foward hitting the tourches to obtain a few hearts, 2 whip upgrades
and a knife. But don't go into the castle just yet. If you time
your jump just right, you'll jump over the entrace of the Castle
and a flashing money bag will open up to give you 1,000 points!
But you're gonna have to jump over the entrace again to obtain it.
Once you've done that, head inside.

Once inside you will be greeted by hoards of Zombies left and
right! Continue going straight until you see a black panther on top
of a stairway. Don't go up the stairs just yet, quickly go foward,
let the panther jump off, and run towards you. Quickly turn towards
the panther and duck and hit him. Next head up the stairway, and
grab the Holy Water in the next candle. You will see another Black
Panther. Just throw Holy Water on him, and he'll be dead. Continue
foward to see another Panther below. Use Holywater on him and jump
down. Break the end block of the platform we just jumped off to
recive a money bag worth 400 points.

Now continue foward killing off the zombies, when you come to the
end of the room head up the stairway, hit the candle for a crucifix
and then head into the door.

In this next room, Bats will come flying towards you, just jump
over them, or hit them with your whip. Climb the stairs down, and
you will notice something is blocking your way. Hit the wall to
recive some Pot Roast (if you need it.) Next go left and go
down the stairs.

Now down here you'll encounter Mermen, and also your first trial at
being able to jump over Pits. Anyways, collect the candles, and
kill the Fleamen, when you get to the end of the next room don't
go up the stairs just yet. You see the blocks that are right under
the the thing? Jump on th blocks on the right, and then hit one of
the blocks on the left, jump down on that platform then duck and a
flashing tressure chest will appear! Grab that, and head upstairs.

Now that we are back where we want to be. Head into the next door
to get back into the Hallway. Here, just kill off the Zombies. Be
sure to grab the AXe subweapon. (You will need it for the Boss.)
Continue forward until you see a large Vampire Bat hanging upside
down. That is your first boss. Also the block on the stairwall
(leading up) holds a Double Shot!

---=| BOSS: Vampire Bat |=---

This Boss battle is very simple. The Vampire Bat will swoop down
and try hit you. All you have to do is dodge by moving, jumping or
ducking. And all you have to do is hit him with your Axe and Whip.

After the battle, collect the Red Orb infront of you. Once you
collect that, the stage will be over!

==| Stage 2: Main Hall |==

This level can be kinda hard for a beginner. Also the Red and Blue
tend to be extreamly hard on the eyes. So play this level with
caution!

At the start of the level hit the first Candle for the Cross
subweapon. Now head up the stairs and hit the wall on the right.
Nothing will come out, but when you stand inside a crown will
appear. Next, take out the Spear Knight, and the Bat. Now head up
the stairs. Next go across the room and kill off the Spear Guards
and bats. You'll also see a Spear Guard fall and stay stuck into
a place. Just kill him off with your cross and then hit the top
left block for a Triple Shot, after that move on into the next
room.

In this room you'll meet the Medusa Head, the most annoying monster
in all the CV Series. The trick is to either hit the foul bastard
timely, or dodge/jump over them. (It takes awhile to master the
pattern of the Medusa Heads so be warned.) After that little game,
jump across the pit, kill the Spear Knights and head up the steps.

Now this part is one of the parts that will piss a CV newbie off.
This is when you have to jump over a pit while doding a Medusa
Head. The trick is to watch what the pattern is, dodge the first
one. Attack the 2nd one, and jump over the pit Next, attack the
third one and jump the pit again. You should be able to make
good decent jumps and not fall. Now kill off the Spear Knights,
(there is some Pot Roast in one of the blocks, I really don't
remember which one.)

Next just cross the gaps, and dodge the other Medusaheads. In the
next room you can find another Pot Roast (near the entrace) if you
need Health. But bewarned - There are spike ceailings. Be sure to
duck on the 2nd one. Also don't forget to hit the first Candle you
see during this part, it's Holy Water, so get it! (You'll find out
soon enough...)

The block on the left (at the start of the stairs) carries
a red money bag. Next head up the stairs and Kill off the
Bone Pillars.

*Tip: Need Extra Score for money to get extra Lives? Use
your Subweapons to destroy Fireballs/Bones/Axes for 1,000 points
each!

Anyways proceed up the stairs. Collect all the candles stuff here, and
dodge the Medusa Heads. Continue foward to fight the next boss.

--= BOSS: Medusa =--

...If you have Double or Triple shot...use holy water to fry
the biatch. After the battle, collect the Orb... I'm going to
get me some coffee.

....Next!

==| Stage 3: Towers |==

This is my honestly my favorite stage in the whole game. Why?
Because this stage has some kick arse music! Anyways walk stright
while whiping the candles. As soon as you walk a few steps a ghost
will sneak up behind you. Anyways, keep going straight and you'll
see this little short guy jump down towards you.

*Tip - The Best way to defeat the Fleamen (the little Igore guys
that jump around) Move towards them when they jump. When they jump
behind you, face them and move foward again to miss them. Keep
doing this until you think you have a clear shot at them!

Anyways move on. Kill the Skeleton and move up the stairs. Anyways
this place will get to be kinda hard. Dodge or Hit the first Raven
you see. Next kill the Skeleton. After that jump across the gap,
and kill the two Ravens you see (or dodge them.) And insted of
jumping on the first platform you see jump down and head to the
last block and duck. You will make a flashing Tressure bag appear.
After that jump on the platforms to get across the level and
into the door (don't forget about the Skeleton!)

Anyways after you entered the door, hit all the candles if you wish
now this area has flying Medusa Heads, just jump over all of them,
and when you see your first set of stairs just keep walking up
them, and ignore the skeleton.

In this next area, count the first block you see when facing the
right. When you count the Fifth or Sixed block, duck on one of them
to reveal a flashing tressure bag! After that, just move foward
kill the Bone Pillars and the Ravens you see while jumping over
the gaps to get into the next area.

In this next area keep going foward. Kill the first Raven you will
see and then the Second and then the Bone Pillar. Keep going and
killing off more of them. You will then have to jump over three
platforms. But bewarned! Skeletons are on these platforms, so as
soon as you kill the first one, jump the platform, and you will
see a second skeleton jumping at you, whip him as fast as you
can. After that jump over and you will then see Dracula's Keep
in the background. After the "big" Dramatic scene(of the Castle
Keep) keep walking foward and Medusa Heads will come flying at
you. There will also be a Bone Pillar. The Trick is, is to watch
the Medusa Head's flight pattern and try to get as close to the
Bone Pillar as possible. After that move into the next room to
fight the boss.

---= Boss: Mummies =---

Now if you're low on health, hit the bottom block on the left
before the Boss Battle. I would also recommend using the Knife
or Holy Water for this battle.

The tactic is pretty much simple, start with the right Mummy
by hitting him with your Holy Water/Knife and whip, and
repeat the same tactic on the last one.

==| Stage 4: Underground Cave & Castle Courtyard. |==

This level can be extreamly harsh, so make sure you grab the
Stopwatch asap. Which is the fourth Candle you see. The first
objective is to dodge the Bats and Mermen while on top of a
floating/moving platform. Use the Stop watch on this part to
assure safety. Anyways, go across the area, killing off any
Mermen you see until you come to another floating/moving
platform. Again, as soon as you get on this, use the stop watch
and stay crouched. You then have to jump on to a peice of ground
to await another platform, repeat the same method. After that just
continue jumping across the level until you come to some stairs
which will lead up to the Courtyard.

This level can be somewhat difficult, but the level becomes easier
with the use of the stop watch. The reason for this is because as
soon as you continue foward Hawks will drop off hoards of Fleamen,
and if you are overwhelmed then use the Stop Watch.

As soon as you hit the last part of this area you will be greated
by yet another new enemy, the Bone Dragon. You can either skip this
enemy and move into the next door if you want.

In the next room, you will fight another Bone Dragon. Kill him off
and if you're low on health, the first block connected to the
Bone Dragon gives you some Pot Roast, move fowards and kill off
the second Bone Dragon.

Keep going...

--=| Boss: Igore & Frankenstein |=--

This boss battle can be extreamly difficult. (Prepare to break
your keyboard/controller.) The only bet is to use the Dagger
you have found earlier in this section. The trick is is to
watch Igore's jumping pattern and get rid of him first, while
dodging the Fireballs he throws.

You will also have to watch out for Frankenstein for he can run
towards you at a really good speed. But your main target is Igore.
Just go for him and then for Frankenstein. But I warn you this
battle takes alot of patience and practice. You have been warned...

==| Stage 5: Dungeon & Laboratory |==

To start this level off move foward killing off the Fleamen and
skeletons, head up the first set up for stairs, killing off the
next Skeleton, keeping until you reach the last set of stairs.
In the next room two skeletons will be throwing bones at you
Just kill off the first one then head up the stairs to kill
the second one with ease. Move across the room and go down
the stairs. Kill off the first Red Skeleton with the Holy
water (if you obtained it in the first room.) and move,
kill off the Fleaman. The first block you see before the
door (the big block platform hit it for some Pot Roast,
and now move into the next area of the level.

In this next part there will be a Fleaman and two Axe Knights. Kill
the first Axe Knight and Fleamen and then move up the steps. Kill
the second one and proceed. In the next area, move along the the
steps kill off the Blood Skeleton, continue down, kill off the
Blood Skeletons and Axe Knight that are in your way, move up the
steps kill off the 2nd Axe Knight, kill the Red skeleton and move
into the next room.

This part is semi-easy just kill off Bone Pillars, and Red
Skeletons in the area don't forget the pick up the Cross subweapon,
for we will need it for the boss here.

Head up the last set of stairs and you will be in a room full of
Axe Knights and Medusa Heads, just kill them off or dodge, because
the end of this part is the boss.

--=| Boss: The Grim Repear |=--

Death is extreamly difficult. If you have the Cross with a Triple
Shot then you should have this battle made. At the start of the
Battle just hoard Crosses at him while hopefully destroying the
sythes and whipping his butt.

The only thing I can tell you about this boss battle is that it
will take extreamly huge amount of paitence to beat this stage.
Because if you thought the last Boss you fought wasa push over

...well you got something coming young padawan!

==| Stage 6: Clocktower |==

Make your way across the bridge dodging the Vampire Bats (don't
bother with them; they are easy to dodge!) And make sure not to
pick up any subweapons, because you will need your Cross for this
level. Once you've made it past the bridge of Dispair, head inside,
you will now be greeted by a happy skeleton, who will pose no
threat to your whip. Jump across the grap, and watch out for the
Hawk to drop a Fleaman. Quickly make your way up the stairs and
into the next section.

In this next section take out the first Skeleton you see, and then
climb up the main steps and kill off the other one and then
proceed. Now in the next section you will be whored with Fleamen
being dropped off by hawks. Dodge through the Fleamen quickly as
possible and then head up, you will then come to the last
area of the game.

==| Stage 7: Castle Keep |==

Welcome to the final area of the game. And the most difficult.
Because, you have to fight Dracula himself. If you don't have
99 hearts I suggest getting them now. (By going up and down the
stairs.) Also I recommend the Cross be used for this battle. If
you do not have it, then you are going to have an extreamly
difficult time in taking the man down.

--=| Boss Dracula |=--

Dracula can be a push over because he can teleport behind you and
fire three fire balls out from his cape. The trick is to fire 1
Cross at his Body and then 2 crosses at his head while whipping
the head.

After you've killed his first form, he will turn into a huge demon.
The trick is to throw three Crosses at his head while dodging the
fire balls. (also throwing 1 cross where he will fire is good) and
while whiping his head.

This battle will take some time and patience, but you will
eventully get through it. After you have beated him enjoy the
end of the game.
