How do I catch a chicken?

I've read somewhere about serenading a chicken to get it to lay eggs...but I dont know how to catch it in the first place! I've beaten the game 3 times, but I'm trying to do everything this time and this is one thing that I can't seem to figure out. Help?

You need to make a chicken trap. Then you need to find a location where a chicken is or once was and wait for it to leave. If it's gone then you'll see a pile of feathers on the ground. The option place chicken trap should appear and after waiting a decent period of time eventually you'll catch one

I tried that myself, but everytime I try it the stupid chicken is never there. i made the trap, but I guess those chickens just take forever or something. I don't think you can bait them, I tried, you'd think you could use corn for bait...
