Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2

Review by luburulz

"The Wii makes this game great."

First off, let me say that I did play this on PS2. It was fun and I enjoyed it but I elected to wait for the Wii version and boy, was I rewarded. The different types of controls all present their own advantages but I decided to stick it out and learn with to play with the Wiimote. So, for the purposes of this review when I refer to the controls, know that it is with the Wiimote and not the other controls (which are fine, just not for me).

Gameplay: 9/10
The game starts out and frustrates you to no end. It seems too fast and it just annoys you to no end. I threw my fair share of curses at the game saying this is way too difficult and there is no way to get past some enemy along the road (I'm looking at you, Hercule vs Android 18 battle). But after settling down and finally beating those "impossible" battles, the game gives you a sense of accomplishment as though you did something awesome by winning. What's great is no two characters are exactly alike, and you can really tell the different after a transformation and with the Wiimote and doing all the waving around, sure, you'll look stupid to friends, but you'll be having some of the best fun in your life doing so.

Graphics: 9/10
The graphics won't blow you away, by no means, but for the purposes of what this game was suppose to be and what it did, it did it very well. The blasts all look like their anime counterparts and all the characters look very great. When you send someone through (or are sent through...) some sort of object (building, rock formation, island, etc) the mini collapse of those things looks pretty cool, but you probably won't notice because you're too busy paying attention to the fight going on.

All in all, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this title. As I said, with the Wiimote and the freedom is grants the player, it's really made a lot more fun than it should be and way more addicting. The game is a bit tough in spots and seems as though you'll never get through it, but all you need is some patience and some calm nerves and you'll get through it. Except the Android 18 vs Hercule battle, you just have to be cheap and lucky to win that thing.
