Call of Duty 3
Review by Auz_Papermario
"A WWII recognised series for a reason."
Before the console release of a Call of Duty game, I had never played a WWII game. I had always wanted to play Call of Duty, but my computer couldn't handle games. But when I played this on Christmas day, I played it every second I could. I shunned Zelda for 36 hours as I shot, beat and ultimately, drove the Germans out of France.
The game is following the story of the Battle of Normandy in the French countryside. From Saint Lo to Mount Ormel you fight from the point of view of a Canadian, Polish, American and British SAS(accompanied by the French resistance). You'll here your name called over and over again, as you are given instructions by fellow squad members. Stages can take up to 30 minutes and can get quite difficult on hard.
"Your going home in a coffin, Fritz!", "Catch this Jerry!" will be heard over and over again from your squad(Especially the Americans). The quotes from the game can be very entertaining from time to time, but become repetitive and annoying. The music in the game isn't bad, but there are stand outs from the last 2 missions, which are truly inspiring.
The controls for Call of Duty 3 on the Wii are iffy. Sure, its a great way of aiming, driving vehicles and performing actions, but whats the point if the controls sometimes lag and causes you to die? I also prefer to push buttons to throw grenades, reload and melee then the Wii remote actions. Sometimes the actions don't work and can cause you to die.
Besides just the game, some bonus features are worthwhile doing. Reading up on Allied and Axis Powers weapons and vehicles interest you? No? Then don't forget the Veteran interviews and Xbox360 graphic cutscenes.
Call of Duty 3 is a great game for all consoles for a launch title and follows the timeline of the battle well. The only thing the Wii version lacks is Multiplayer. Other than that, a great game for anyone willing to sit down and take it to the Germans.
