Super Swing Golf

"Good idea, bad execution"

I picked up this game from gamefly and I must confess I never played the PC version but I was looking for an interesting golf game. Lets start with whats good about the game.

Pro's
Graphics are very nice, cute and well suited to the wii. The swing mechanics are very good, it takes a little time to get used to but its very satisfying. Multiple swing modes, there is both push button if you wish to sit, or swing mode to actually swing like a club. Many many many unlockables, costumes, clubs, balls, caddies, etc

Cons
There is only one huge major con but its a doosie, the difficulty level. Its extremely difficult. Not only that it wildly fluctuates from match to match, its randomly selected so one match they are never miss ultra gods of golf and other times they cant find the hole for love or money. So matches are often decided before you start. You often get in a match you have no chance of winning, or loosing. Though most of the time its on the too hard difficulty.

Graphics 8/10 they aren't blow your mind graphics but they are very cute and it suits the wii. The courses are diverse and interesting. There are many costumes to unlock that not only change your appearance but your skills.

Sound 7/10 the sound and music work for the game, its cute and cheerful and very well suits the style of the game.

Gameplay 2/10 this is where the game suffers, its not that the actual gameplay is bad.It takes a little time but not too long to figure out how to get the controls working before you are hitting like a pro. There are special power moves and alot of fun things you can do. The problem is the difficulty, most of the time a little more than 3/4. The comp Ai sets itself to super insane hard level and you never have a chance to win, it never misses a shot, and usually shoots birdie or even eagle, which means you have to hole in one alot and thats just be tied. Then other times it goes totally stupid and just hands the game to you by driving the ball into rough or out of bounds on half the shots. Its almost comical. There is very rarely a time when you feel challenged, its feast or famine, impossible or too easy.

Why there wasn't a selectable difficulty setting on this game is beyond me, I mean if I shoot badly then its my own fault if I loose but If I loose after shooting well but the computer never leaves an opening, its frustrating.

Rent, pass or buy.

I would say unless you've played this game before rent, you might like it, but its very frustrating for no good reason. The game should have been balanced better for a more casual audience of the wii. Maybe this is popular in some circles but I can not give a recommendation to this game.
