Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Review by Vincentsdream
"World War II just got a little better"
Battles in the Sky.
Story (Don't worry no Spoilers) 9/10
As an American Pilot, you find the need to serve in the Great War. However America has not yet entered the war, so you enlist with the British. Your first mission in this game is a training mission, you meet the men who will serve as your squadron in this war and from this point on, your brothers. You start off in Europe, fighting the Germans, but later are called to serve in the Pacific Theatre.
The story of this game is just grand, mainly because it is a World War II game, but the dialogue really puts you there. The story of this game follows the true events of World War II, and you cover every major Air Battle in the war. From Dunkirk to Midway.
Graphics 8/10
Let's be honest, the Wii will not be known for its graphics. However, this game is amazing. I remember flying a bombing mission, you flew right into the sunset. I was in awe, it was just beautiful. Not only do the mission settings look amazing. But the Aircraft are very detailed. You could tell what kind of planes you were fighting up close. Also the destruction of an Air target varies on where you fire your final shot. And when you take damage, fires will start. The graphics are not ground-breaking, but they are more then good. They fit very well for this game
Game play. 7/10
Now, don't get me wrong, the only reason why I give this a 7 is because it takes a while to get the hang of the controls. After about thirty minutes of playing this game, I was shooting down planes left and right. The default setting is you use your nun chuck as a type of Joystick. When you pull it up, your plane goes up, when you push it down, your plane goes down. Left to go left, right to right. It works great, I suggest you set it for "Simulator" For those of you who love to Roll, but if you can't take it, Arcade is Fine. Now if you can't take it, don't' worry, they have a Classic setting which works perfect, and to be honest I had to resort to a few times.
Now enough of the controls, the Game play in this is fantastic. You go all through the world, flying in 46 authentic World War II Aircraft, this includes; German, British, American, and Japanese planes. You go from London, to Midway, to Paris. It is a fantastic game, and you learn a bit of history on the way.
Sound 7/10
The Sound effects of this game were very well done, they didn't use the same sound for firing your machine-guns. Most craft had their own unique sound. Explosions really packed a punch, and bombing missions. Well, let's just say "Whistle while you work." Now the only part of this I found lacking was, sometimes the sound would not keep up with the in game "Movies" For instance, you would see a ship get blown up. Then twenty seconds later, after the movie had ended, your character would say, "They hit the..." Other then that, it was done great. I thought the voice actors were perfect for the characters, and at random times in battle you would hear, this may sound sick, screams of enemy/ally units being shot down. Added to the realism.
Replay Value 8/10
Well, with Arcade mode, Ace mode, and Mini-Campaign, along with the actual Campaign. I'd say this game has great replay value. Not only are the missions fun to play over and over. Once you beat the game you unlock a "Mini-Campaign" which allows you to go on Bombing runs and great dog fights. Along with that is Arcade mode, which allows to unlock "Upgrades" for you 46 air craft. And Ace mode which unlocks Ace Paint jobs. This game is one you will enjoy for a long time.
When all is said and done. 8/10
I have to give this game 8 out of 10. It is a truly epic flight game. I would find myself pulling the nun chuck back to the point of me laying on my back on my couch, only to find myself crashing into a wall. It is a real thriller, and the wii controls only add to the excitement of it all. If you are a fan of World War II games, buy this. If you are a fan of Flight games, buy this. It is a must have for anyone. And I promise you will not be disappointed.
