"One of the worst Wii games out there"

Wing Island is a flying game for the Nintendo Wii. Critics hated the game. I gave it a rent because I was bored. Is it worth checking out or were the critics correct? Read on!

You're a little duck guy on Wing Island. You're a pilot and it's up to you to solve the islander's problems. It's a silly plot but you haven't seen anything until you see the missions. Such wonderful missions include "find the cows" and other stuff.

Graphics in the game are rather dated looking. The planes look okay but your entire group looks exactly the same. The game does look blurry at times and the location itself is kind of bland anyway. The stuff that might be considered special effects like fire and stuff are very underwhelming in their looks.

The sound in the game is bleh. The game uses a made up language for the cut scenes and it's not that it's annoying, it's that it's some of the most annoying sounds I have ever heard coming from my TV. Music in the game was decent though. Nothing special but it got the job done.

The game uses the Wiimote for all controls. You hold it like a remote control. Title forward to go up, back to go down. Left and right tilts mean a turn but if you twist it in that direction then you make a sharp turn. It's easy enough but it feels awkward and very sloppy when you're in close quarters. You use whatever items that pertain to the mission by hitting the B button. It seemed to have a slight delay.

The game has a story mode which has you doing a few different missions. Missions range from finding cows, putting out forest fires, delivering crates or blowing something up. There are a few other types but to be honest it's all kind of uninspired.

The game takes place on three islands and it's where your missions will be taking place. So after the first 5 or so missions I was bored with the location but then a new one would pop up. They are all small islands small island and the repetitive tasks really don't help at all.

Each mission has a time limit which is usually about 3 minutes long. I usually found myself clearing the mission with 20 or so seconds left. At the end of a mission you get a rank and money based on how clean your performance was.

You use the money to buy new planes or to upgrade the ones you already have. In most missions you'll be flying with your squad which is stuck to you like glue and to be honest it looks silly. It also means the upgrades and stuff are useless unless you're in a solo mission.

The game is about 3 hours long. It has a little extra content but nothing worth while. If you think $50 is a good deal for 3 hours then this game is perfect for you. As it stands the control is a little iffy and it's very short on content and length.

Wing Island is one of the worst games I've played on the Wii. It isn't because of the control this time though. The game itself feels like it was randomly tossed together and half of it was left in the studio. Not saying control was perfect though but it also has some issues.
