Paper Mario

Review by americanimafan

"Would I get this game again?"

HECK YES! Paper Mario is one of the most original and fun adventures I've ever seen in a video game! Paper Mario is one of the few Mario RPGs out there. It seems to be a prequel to Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, which is also a great game. Some may not like it due to the fact that it is turn-based, but I think even some turn-based haters would enjoy this one.

Gameplay: As I've said, it is a turn-based RPG. While it may seem like a boring concept to some, this has a system of action commands making it more enjoyable. Action commands are pretty much pressing the button at the right time to increase your attack's power, and decrease the damage done by the boss. Plus the special moves have a series of buttons making different attacks more fun to use. You also have party members in this game, with only one out at a time, you will have to fight differently based on your opponent. Plus your party members have moves in the noncombat world. Leading to a few interesting, sometimes slightly challenging puzzles. Another part of the game are badges. Badges improve your character with bonuses, usually new attacks. Badges can also be used to make the game harder, for those of you who like a challenge. The level-up system is pretty simple. Not a falling factor, but nothing spectacular about it either.

Plot: Somewhat generic and a little kiddy, but with all the somewhat good humor, there really isn't a bad moment, aside from the tutorials. Every character has a back story too. While not really that good, it isn't terrible either.

Music: Very well done. It matches everything really well, and I loved the final boss music. Actually, I liked most of the boss music.

Graphics: What does the name tell you? The graphics are paper. And it all looks very colorful and well done. I can't complain about these graphics. All the places in the game were fun to go to for whatever reason, the best being the magical toybox. Who can't have fun in a magic toybox with colorful paper graphics?

All in all, a great game that is funny, not too easy or hard, has a great battle system, and some secrets in many places minus a generic, kiddy plot and bad tutorial equals nine out of ten.
