Wii Play

Review by TripleJump

"An average game, best bought for the controller."

Price of a Wii Game: 59.99 CND
Price of a Controller: 44.99 CND
Price you actually pay for the games: 15.00 CND

When you consider this, the deal seems to be pretty good. You get 9 mini games and a controller for a sweet price. If you were like me, you probably bought it mainly for the controller but maybe thought most of these games would be fun, they are at first. They last a while and then get somewhat repetitive (Save a few games).

GAMEPLAY: 7/10

Mini-game by mini-game reviews:

A note right now that this is a review of each game played on MULTIPLAYER. As this is the way you get the most of Wii play.

Shooting Range: 7/10

This is probably the most simple game, a point and click easy to play game in which you must shoot targets. Whether they actually be targets, clay pidgeons, cans and even UFOs! The game does the exact same path every time which can be a little repetitive over long periods of time.

Find Mii: 8/10

Find Mii is the most complicated game and probably the one that will last you longest. It's not the funnest, but it's still funny at a party to have people scream and yell and laugh at you as you and your sweaty opponent try to select the Mii's while under pressure. It changes each time (though goals remain the same) meaning it won't be very boring.

Table Tennis: 7/10

This and the Billiards are probably the main reason you looked at this title and decided to buy it. It must be like Wii Sports's Tennis? Right? Wrong, you simply move the Remote so that the ball hits the paddle and it automatically returns it. That being said, it's still addicting for a medium length of time (a week or two).

Pose Mii: 5/10

This is the probably the most boring game in the entire disc. You have to make your Mii pose and match the direction while random pictures appear in the background. In my opinion it's a waste of time and not very fun, even the first time you play it. However, it will help you practice turning the Wiimote upside down and around if you ever play a game that requires it.

Laser Hockey: 6/10

It's Pong meets Air Hockey! You can move the paddle around your half and hit them back. Turning your wrist will send it back at a different angle. Most goals are scored on your own net unfortunately, and it's lifespan is short to medium. It's a good changeup game, where if you are playing one game for a while and you want a break.

Billiards: 10/10

This is by far the best game. It's slow paced, but sort of like Golf on Wii Sports. In fact, it's good enough to be included in Wii Sports! You hit the target ball and hope you knock them into the pockets. It will take strategy and different aims and hits to do this properly.

Fishing: 8/10

To tell the truth, it's better on single player because it doesn't have the big message blocking half the pond. You both have to try to catch fish. It's kind of sloppily put together and didn't use the Wii's controls as well as they could have. It's still pretty addicting and won't get old as fast.

Charge!: 7.9/10

The main thing that draws you in is it's shock value. You are riding a cow knocking down scarecrows. I tell you, while having friends over they ask "what's this one?" and I answer "You ride a cow and knock down scarecrows" and they get this big grin and say "WE'RE PLAYING IT". It uses a new control scheme with the remote and you can have plenty of fun!

Tanks 9/10

This is a very addictive game. You (and a friend) work as a team to blow up the enemy tanks. The shells fired can bounce blow up you, a teammate or an enemy in one hit. So you have to be careful. It's sort of reminiscent of an arcade game.

GRAPHICS: 6/10

While not great, they aren't very bad. They are perfectly acceptable, which is the way they should be. Gameplay makes the game, not the graphics though. Yes all you 360 owners, it's true.

MUSIC: 7/10

The songs aren't really prevalent in the game and could be louder. Some of them really need to be more upbeat to get your heart pumping. As some games (like Mario Party) show, you can get much more into it with an upbeat song because you start to get excited. The music, however sparse is quite good. There are also sound effects which are good, and come out of your controller and make it rumble which makes it much more interactive.

Replayability: 6/10

It will get boring fairly quickly, but at a party or with a friend it can be fairly fun to play.

Buy or Rent:

If you are looking for a game, rent. If you want the controller then I'm afraid you have to buy the game for yourself. It's a good deal though, because it's 15.00 for the game plus the price of the controller!

Overall: 6.5/10 rounded up to 7/10.
