Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution
Review by Andrewpod2
"Wii's fighter revolution"
Ever since I got that issue of Nintendo power with a preview of this game, I was hyped to get it. The sequel to the GameCube's Clash of Ninja:2, is a good buy, and revolutionizes (pun intended) Wii fighters. With a complete cast of 20 characters, 25 story missions, and several game play modes, this game delivers.
Gameplay: 9
The gameplay of this game is very similar to the first 2 CoN games, simple yet much fun. you can use a weak attack or strong attack for combos, a special technique and guarding. Special techniques are dependent upon chakra, which you gain while being attacked or attacking .Every character attacks are completely unique. A hiding mechanic has been added, there are now obstacles you can break or hide behind. you avoid damage while you hide, and you can press the strong or weak attack button to come out of hiding and attack. another new mechanic has also been added. You can knock your opponent off the stage and choose to punch them, distract them so they land on their back, or just do nothing. but be warned, if your opponent predicts this they will dodge your punch see through your distraction. The gameplay is very solid, wroth playing for awhile.
Story: 7
The story is based off the hit anime "Naruto" (duh). I might just a narutard but I think this game fails to correctly portray the anime during certain parts of mission mode (the only mode with story). There is usually dialog between characters before a fight. It is 25 missions long as said in the intro, each have special requirements to beat, and have 3 difficulties.
Control: 7
There are 4 types of controler configurations, GameCube Controller, Classic Controler, Wiimote, Wiimote+Nunchuck. Since I cannot judge the classic or Wiimote, I will compare The GameCube to the Wiimote+Nunchuck. I will say this right now, if the Wiimote+Ninchuck was the only option, I would hate this game. Your main form of attacking (weak attack) has to be done by shaking the Wiimote. This is extremely annoying and tiring, you will probably find that simply pressing the B button on the GameCube controller is much easier and more enjoyable. Plus, on the Wiimote+Nunchuck you can only go in 1 direction when you sidestep, where as you can pick on the GameCube controler.
Graphics: 8
The graphics of this game are much improved from CoN2, but it still keeps its anime look. It is now much more detailed and the camera during specials make it more intense. There are still some rough edges on characters, but nothing big. The one big thing that caught my eye, is the character's shadows, They are either 8 or 16 bit! I don't know how this came to be, but it's so unrealistic and ugly. Other than the shadows the Graphics are good
Music & Sound: 8
Please take into account that I rarely pay attention to the Music playing .The music is nothing special, a few nice tunes to listen to but not amazing. The sound is appropriate, again nothing special, but nothing bad about it. I really have nothing else to put here, so I'm gonna have to end this part.
Rent or Buy?
If you a Naruto fan and like fighting games or just like fighters in general, I highly suggest you buy this game. however this game is easily beaten in a weekend, so If your not sure about this game, rent, and then if you like it, buy.
Overall: 8 (not rounded)
The Wii's best fighter to date
