Battalion Wars 2

"Excellent Tactical Strategy Game, Delivers What it Promises"
Overall
The game feels fun the first time you pick up the wii remote and aim it at the screen. You feel in control of the battlefield, not consumed by it like a traditional FPS. You are a commander in control of a battalion (go figure) of infantry, artillery, and ships. Your tactical strategy will determine whether or not you will win the battle.
Controls- 9/10
Very fluent controls that allow you to play the game without worrying about the UI effecting your ability to control your units. Very well done. The only complaint I have for it is that you cannot switch between units by pressing a button when aiming at their icon. However, it doesn't impair your ability to play at all, just a personal issue.
Gameplay- 8/10
Excellent gameplay. It was very well thought out how you would select and choose between units. It can be a little clumsy and impractical at times, especially when trying to select individual units. The AI is just as good as you would want it to be, and the skill of the player and his/her use of their units will win the battle, not the AI of idle grunts.
Story- 6/10
Really, you can't expect much going into a game called Battalion Wars 2 in respect to a story. I wasn't disappointed because I wasn't looking for a story when I bought the game, however there were times that it impressed me, mostly in the Western Frontier campaign with all the flashbacks. It added a little bit to the personalities of the characters. Overall though it is nothing special.
Graphics- 8/10
As far as Wii graphics go, and the number of units and doodads, the graphics are very nice. It is a cartoony game, and so things are brightly colored and somewhat round, but it works and so deserves some points IMO.
Online- +1/0
There are so few games right now with online capabilities for Wii, and so I believe it is a perk that any game should even come with online play. There are three modes of online play: 1v1 skirmish, 1v1 assault, or 2 player co-op. It adds to the longevity of the game and makes it more competitive. Take on your friends or play a randomized game. Show the enemy who's daddy!
Final Score- 8/10
A very good game that at the very least deserves a rent and see. What are you waiting for?!?!
