NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Review by ArkhanBladewind
"Finally."
Finally. NiGHTs is back.
I beat it in one sitting it was that good. Granted, it was a long sitting....
Where to begin....
Graphics ---9. They're Wii graphics, so they aren't uber HD super-fly like everyone expects anymore... but nonetheless they are vivid, and detailed. I really like the way everything turned out. NiGHTS herself looks awesome. I didn't experience any slowdowns either... considering the visual output, I was pleased with this!
Music & Sound --- 10 . Oh man. Sega did some sweet music. It's very fitting. You got your epic dramatic tunes, your relaxing ambient stuff, and your trippy happy level music. I dig it. The sound effects are, well, just what you would expect....
The voice overs are nice too! Everyones got an English accent. It sounds good. Sometimes the little kids sound kind of lifeless, but most of the time it's excellent!
Controls: 8 I was kind of disappointed, I cant use the motion sensing to fly so well since my room is cramped. Its recommended that you are 4-9 feet away from the TV. I was like, 2, so a lot of stuff just didn't work out. I did at one point stand in my closet, and I really liked the flight guided with the Wii Mote. Paralooping was easy, and fun!....but I had to retire to a more comfortable seat, and use the classic controller and or nunchuck; both of which perform excellently.
aside from flight, you just have acrobatic maneuvers and your drill boost. It's good stuff.
Gameplay : 10 I couldn't stop playing. The story is interesting enough that you aren't frantically trying to skip cut-scenes. You have to travel aroudn Nightopia and battle the Nightmarens to save your Ideya and in turn, Nightopia. Standard level exploration w/ a boss at the end ensues....along with a lot of side stuff to do like My Dream which is WiFi compatible, and secrets to do, on top of multiplayer racing, and repeating levels to try getting better scores!
I especially like the creativity of the boss battles. You go from parlor game-esque boss battles , to lightning paced 3D Breakout boss battles complete with lava and mutant spiders.
Not to mention, NiGHTS gets to use her personas to turn into a dolphin, a rocket, and a dragon! Solid.
If You were a NiGHTS fan back in the day on Saturn, get this. You won't be disappointed. Alot of places have been giving the game a bad rep, but as a NiGHTS fan, I say it's excellent, and worth the 50$.
