"Super Swing Golf Is Back Again"

Well seeing as this game has not gotten any reviews yet I thought I'd be the first to submit one. Super Swing Golf Season 2 is the sequel to Super Swing Golf for the Wii and you may or may not know this game from it's online multiplayer counterpart Albatross18. Super Swing Golf Season 2 is VERY similar to the first one with some differences which I'll go over in a few minutes. The game features fantasy style golf on lush, graphical courses with anime style players and caddies and offers plenty of hours of playtime especially if you consider trying to complete it in full. I think that about covers it for the introduction so I'll get right to the review now. First I would like to cover stats, they are a bit different in this game if you played the first one but not too much.. now you only have three basic stats: Power, Control, and Spin. Power of course affects your distance, control affects how easy it is to control your shots, and spin now affects the spin on your ball AND the curve unlike the first game where there was an actual curve stat. Also now there is no penalty on control for raising power which was present in the first game.

Gameplay 8/10: Well I have to give this game an 8 out of 10 for gameplay, as I can't see how anyone couldn't have fun playing this game, sure golf can get a little repetitive so to speak but the changing courses with changing factors will keep the challenge up and you will have to learn to change your strategy and buy new equipment and clothes to keep up with your competition. The game offers tons of equipment, clubs, phoenix balls (the golf balls), and items to help you along your way. You can unlock new items as you go along completing matches in the new tour mode which looks a lot like Mario party.. you move your characters to the next space complete the match and go on.. sometimes they branch allowing you to choose your direction and other times there are hidden shortcuts if you manage to play a great game. You earn "pang" the currency of Super Swing Golf Season 2 as you go along which you can use to buy new clothes, clubs, items, phoenix balls, or most importantly upgrade your clubs to give your player higher stats. In this game you no longer have to upgrade your clothes like the first game.. only the clubs can be upgraded.. all the stats upgraded by clothes are easily added by just putting on the clothes. To wrap gameplay up the addition of new clothes, items, courses, clubs, minigames, and other modes the game is sure to provide you with some very fun gameplay. To wrap gameplay up the game plays through now with a coin system in tour mode which requires you to get coins to pass through certain gates and getting to certain coin amounts unlock new items for you. There are also presents along the path on tour mode and if you defeat the match the present is on you will get a free present which requires no pang to purchase first which is nice.. all coin bonus unlockables have to be purchased though.

Controls 9/10: I give the controls a nine out of ten.. they are the same as the first game.. very easy to use and there is a good tutorial that explains how to do everything for you; there is a lefty and righty swing option and also button mode is back.. they did CHANGE the buttons around some now though so it takes a while to get used to if you are used to the first one's controls. The games swing mode is very accurate depending on how good you are with timing it's possible to hit a perfect shot about 99% of the time. The button mode is also still available for those who prefer the more basic way of golf gaming. If for anything though give the swing mode a try.. it's probably why most people try this game to begin with is to see how well they can perform during swing mode or if someone is a golfer and wants to practice their swing on a video game, it's a must try at least once even if you only rent the game.

Story 7/10: Story was difficult to rate.. the game has a story to it but it's nothing really dramatic and it doesn't catch your interest much.. it's just there to hold the basic plot of the game together.. you are going to me more concerned with hitting the greens then listening to the story for the most part. However the game does a good job of putting the basic story together the big thing is in Super Swing Golf Season 2 it is more centered around one character, while the first one had different stories for each of the characters. That is pretty much all there is to the story of the game.. it's golf so it really all comes down to the golf not the story.

Graphics 9/10: Some may not agree but I have to give the graphics a 9 out of 10.. as I play on some of the courses like Pink Wind or Wind Hill for instance I'm taken in awe of the graphics and how great the wind mills looks.. or on some of the courses like Blue Water where you can watch the waves and that sail boat in the distance Snow Cannon with the falling snow and snowflake ground pattern I could go on for a long while but I won't as it must be seen to be believed. The characters match up good as well.. sure they are anime characters (big eyes, big feet, etc.) but they fit in perfectly with the rest of the game and I think they are very well drawn. Also the for those of you who have played the first game.. they have improved the frame rate as well.. the game no longer lags like it does (remember Wiz Wiz when the fog rolled in? I sure do...) so that is a definite plus to the graphics department as well. Graphics are a major part of the game and Super Swing Golf Season 2 offers nice graphics that will constantly have your eyes roaming the courses.

Sound 6.5/10: Okay I rated sound a bit lower.. there are some new courses and some new music for those courses as well as some new music for some old courses (it seems to be random what plays) but probably the biggest addition to the sound department is that the characters have voices now. The voices were a neat addition but I fear some may find them annoying as even I find a few of them get on my nerves (like when Arin is making a hit). The new courses in the game have splendid music to go along with them that give you a feel of what it would actually be like to be playing that course yourself if it actually existed. Most of the sound is the same however and it fits the game to a tee, it's nothing extraordinary though.. and if you played the first one most of the music and sounds will be familiar to you.

Playtime/Replayability 9.5/10: Okay I rated this real high as this game will definitely require at least 80 hours minimum for most people to complete, the game also comes with more than one save file (4 now) so you can now create a new file and try going through it again using different methods or characters. Also Super Swing Golf Season 2 has many other minigames and modes you can play (like the new darts and driving games along with balloon pop which has made a comeback) which will have you coming back and playing more after you complete the long trek down tour mode. All in all this game will definitely keep you busy for a couple of months of least if you like to complete everything in full and even if you don't complete everything. Also if you are a big fan of the Dead or Alive series and Ninja Gaiden like myself except to see some nice costumes. ^_^

Final Score: 8/10: I really enjoyed this game and I recommend buying it if you like golf or if you really enjoyed the first one like myself. I would have rated the game even higher however the one major flaw I had with it is it need to have more new outfits (it has quite a few but 90% of the outfits were already in the first one and the other 10% are new), but that isn't enough of a flaw to not make me recommend buying this game. Even if you didn't buy the first game I recommend trying this one as it has all that the first game does and even more. I do hope they release a Super Swing Golf Season 3 for the Wii as I would most definitely get it as this series is most definitely fun and addicting.

Final Wrapup: I thank you for reading my very first review for Gamefaqs and I hope that I helped explain or influence your decisions about this game if just a little bit.
