Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Review by thecheese103
"Minigames, with an athletic plot twist."
Hello! This is my first review on GameFAQS. (Before I start ranting, let's get this over with)
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Probably one of the best Wii games out there in my opinion, and it was one of the most anticipated Wii titles out there for some time. It also has a DS title at this point, but thats not what we're reviewing. This game deserves the 9/10 that I gave it, let's talk about why.
Gameplay 8/10
This game was composed out of minigames, thus no storyline. The games were awesome, over 20 different Olympic events, a few Dream events(stuff not in the Olympics), over 16 playable characters that you can play as. (including all of the Mii in the Mii channel that you have created) By playing through some circuits and earning some awards, you can unlock new events and Circuits. Circuit modes are where you can compete in several events for the Gold. For the most part, it is just you versus the computer, competing in different events such as the 100m race, the javelin, Archery, Fencing, and I'll try not to spoil the rest of them for the people who don't already have the game.
Graphics 10/10
The graphics in the game were 10/10 easily. The 3-D graphics made the game much more fun to play and enjoy, the Enviroment is always fun to look at while you are playing the game, with different tracks and arenas that you can play in. The animation used on the characters that you can play as is great, and very eye-catching.
Sounds 7/10
The sounds in the game were great, but their is still a little room for some improvement. Each chracter has unique phrases for when they win medals, for the ladder, lose the events. They were also able to use the speaker on the Wii Remote for some game sound effects. The sounds used for when running, shooting, swimming, etc. is great, Nintendo used many differnet sound effects for them, but not my favorite detail of the game.
Controls 10/10
The controls used for playing the game are excellent, Nintendo did a great job using the Wii Remote and Nun-Chuk's features for controls. Many different techniques are performed using them, from things like Aiming the Wii Remote for shooting games like skeet, Waving them back and forth for the fans in the stadium to cheer you on (lol), and Waving them up and down for running and swimming. In addition to that, they made use of the speakers in the Wii Remote (see sound effects), were able to make certain games playable via only the Wii remote, and a few other features.
Other Features: 9/10
Some of the other features that are in the game include multiplayer games, in which you can play the same game modes, but you can play with other friends for a total of four human players. This game also included Nintendo Wifi Connection, which with a Wireless internet connection, or a Nintendo Wifi Connector, you can use your Wii system to play against other Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games players online. Those are all of the other features that are included in this game.
Final recommendation
Buy this game if you have a Wii! It's a lot more fun to play when you have friends, so make sure you have some for multiplayer.
