de Blob
Review by VideoGameMania
"This game is de Bomb!"
Introduction:
Wow, this game is quite the adventure and platformer you have been waiting for. You get to roll around tons of levels and destroy enemies and robots that will give you color and color points. You then get to roll around and paint everything along with smashing, sliding, jumping, and a lot more!
Gameplay 9.9/10
This game has a lot of cool things going on. Basically, you have to destroy enemies and robots to make de Blob a certain color. Then you get to roll around levels and paint buildings and make your way through the level. The main goal in every level is to get to the end pool and take back some land from the terrible company INKT (pronounced inked) and make the color underground stronger. Along the way through the levels are billboards and landmarks and buildings and trees. You have a progress menu which shows your progress for that level. You will see what medal you have for the level so far and you will see your awards section. You can get tons of different awards for a level by painting all of the trees, opening every gate and section, freeing all of the citizens, and painting every building and wall. The game is harder than it looks and sounds because some of the things to find to get awards are really well hidden. If you make some good progress like you get a gold medal you can unlock galleries and special missions! The only thing that is bad is that you can't save in the middle of levels. The game autosaves after you beat a level or mission so if you have to leave and go to a wedding or work or school while you're playing you will have to replay the mission another time.
Story 10/10
The city of Chroma was once one of the most beautiful and colorful places in the world...that is until Comrade Black and the INKT corporation arrived and started sucking up all of the color. Comrade Black thinks that all people should be gray and that the entire world should be dull, gray, and totally boring! Only 5 citizens escaped INKT. Actually, 4 of the 5 were cornered until de Blob came and destroyed the tanks and weapons that the INKT minions were carrying. De Blob saved the other 4 people and then they all formed the color underground. It's the color Holocaust!
Control 10/10
This game requires a nunchuk. You use the analog on the nunchuk to move de Blob around. Slam the Wii remote down to jump and hold down Z to target enemies. Once an enemy is targeted you can slam the Wii remote down the same way you do to jump and you will jump up and automatically move over the enemy and come down hard to smash the enemy. Hold down the A button on the Wii remote to bring up your compass which shows you nearby enemies, unpainted buildings, and water fountains to rinse off your paint or ink (ink is bad!). Those are all of the basic controls and it doesn't get more complicated than that. Well, the camera can be moved by the arrows and the C button centers the camera behind you. The controls are basic and help make the game mindless so you don't have to concentrate completely on it to complete a mission.
Difficulty 8/10
The game is pretty hard but some of the really old Rayman or Ratchet and Clank games have had some tougher parts. I say that difficulty is it's own rating and hardly affects the overall score unless it's impossible to complete without a perfect strategy which it is not the case.
Length N/A
Sorry, I haven't been able to beat the game yet but so far it seems pretty long, what with all of the awards to go back and collect and the bonus levels and in-level missions. I'd guess that the length is about an 8/10.
Sound/Music 10/10
This is one of the best parts of the game. You get to roll around and paint things and there are sound affects when you paint things. Before you play a level you get to select de Blob's mood. You start the game off with being able to select Random, Blissful, and Funky. When you get more things unlocked you can unlock more moods but anyway...if you choose for example funky, whenever you paint a building you will hear funky jazz music. The music will also differ from the moods that you select. My favorite is funky because the jazz sounds really cool but there are tons of moods that you can unlock and get.
Overall 9/10
This game as I mentioned will have you climbing up buildings and squashing enemies. You will have a lot of fun playing this game.
Rent or Buy?
OBVIOUSLY BUY! This game is a lot of fun and I never rent games. I think that if you rent a game and you like it you will waste more money buying it so I say buy it or don't play it at all. I recommend this game for all ages. It's funny, fun, clever, and action-packed!
