"Very, very overrated. Decent at best"
Madworld is probably the most overrated game on the Wii. It's a decent beat-em-up with an interesting art style and tons of blood, but that's about it. The moves get repetitive, little variety in weapons, and most of all ridiculously short.
I'll start with some positives. The game has an interesting style. Black and white with red all over (bah dum tshhh.) I wasn't too fond of the style, but I didn't hate it either. It's really a matter of taste.
You play as Jack, a pissed of badaz with a chainsaw on his arm. This guy makes Kratos from God of War look like a wuss. I mean, he has a chainsaw! The first time you play this game, you'll be amazed at the things you can do with the chainsaw. Cut someone in half, cut them while they're in the air, cut them here or there or anywhere. The chainsaw is friggin awesome.
Other than the chainsaw, you won't be using much else. No upgrades, no new weapons to buy at some armory. Instead you'll get one or two weapons to use in a level, but they won't last long which is a shame.
Another positive is that you can use the entire environment as a weapon. It sounds really cool, but once you start playing you'll realize there isn't much variety in the ways you can kill someone. Shove someone into a grinder or a rosebed and that's pretty much it. Each level usually has one special death trap or something, but besides that you'll get bored really quick with the ways you can kill someone.
Boss fights are incredible in this game. And I mean incredible. They're all just so much fun, and lots of variety. The soundtrack is great, and it really fits to the game. And the announcers of the game are just hilarious. You have to love them.
Now onto the negatives. This game get's really, really repetitive. There are only a few finishers you can use in this game. Yeah the first time you rip a guy in half with your bare fists is cool, but it just get's so boring to watch the same move over and over again.
The Blood Bath challenges are a neat idea. These are little mini-games that take place in the middle of a level, but they all rely on over the top violence instead of actual fun gameplay to entertain you. I didn't really enjoy any of the Blood Bath challenges.
My biggest gripe with the game is the length. You will probably beat this game in a day or two. There is practically no reason to go back and beat the same boring levels again, unless you want a high score. You unlock two weapons when you beat the game, which is pretty nice, but other than that there is nothing to keep you coming back to this game.
If you can grab this for cheap, say $15 bucks then get it. But anything over twenty is just not worth it. There are much better games on the Wii for $30 or less. If you're a huge fan of beat-em-ups, or you want a blood filled Wii game to show it's not the kiddy console people say it is, then I guess you should pick this up.
