1.0 Introduction
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Without a doubt, the hardest thing to achieve in the single player mode
of Kung Fu Chaos is gaining Five stars on each of the Ninja Challenge
scenarios. For the average player, gaining three stars on most of them
shouldn’t be a problem, but five stars can prove to be problematic.
Well, this guide has been written to help you get those elusive five-
star ratings in each of the Ninja Challenge scenarios.

3.0 About the game
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kung Fu Chaos in a party game for up to four players for the Microsoft
XBox. The game shines as both a multi player and single player game and
is definitely one of the best multiplayer games currently available for
the XBox.

4.0 What’s in this guide?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously Kung Fu Chaos is great as multiplayer but it also has a solid
single player element in it as well. In the following section I’ll be
detailing each scenario that you encounter during the Ninja Challenge
Mode in the order from first to last and giving tips on how to achieve
that elusive five-star rating for that scenario. I’ve also provided a
guide to how difficult it is to achieve three stars, and how difficult
it is to achieve five stars, so you can compare the two. In most
scenarios it’s significantly harder to achieve five stars than it is to
achieve three.

5.0 Gaining those Five Stars!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the reason you started reading this FAQ. A guide on how to
achieve your five-star rating on each of the Ninja Challenge stages.
Let’s get started! Obviously I haven’t included the training stages
because those aren’t star rated. Note that you don’t NEED to gain five
stars on every stage to unlock everything, but it sure makes you feel
good! :)

5.1 RIOT ON THE SET

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

For the first stage naturally this is the easiest stage to get your
three stars required to pass, but is actually a little difficult for a
five star rating. The main thing you need to keep in mind is that you
want to kill the enemies quickly. Build your super up as quickly as
possible, but don’t use it if there’s only one enemy left to kill. Wait
until a group of enemies spawn before using it, and as for the other
ninjas, make sure you knock them down and throw them off the stage as
quickly as possible. Gaining five stars shouldn’t be too difficult if
you are quick enough.

5.2 LEGEND OF THE DRUNKEN BASTARDS

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Believe it or not but the fact whether you get five stars or not in
this stage is decided near the beginning. Once the initial platform
falls and you are fighting on the ground level of the building, this is
the time to rack up as many ninja kills as possible. Don’t bother
picking them up and throwing them off the edge when you knock them
down, just knock them down and taunt, then do the same for the other
ninjas until you have built up your super. Use it immediately, then
repeat for the next wave of ninjas, but you need to be quick. You know
you’ve done enough when those red-clad ninjas start appearing and you
kill a few of them before you even leave the building and jump onto the
first boat. After that it’s pretty smooth sailing, just pick them off
as they appear and quickly kick or toss them into the water, use your
super whenever you build it up, take out the boss at the end and the
five stars will be yours. But you must kill enough ninjas while you
inside the building you start in.

5.3 A FEW GOOD STUNTMEN

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

This isn’t all that difficult to get three or five stars. Keep your eye
on the flying stuntmen and watch out for cows. Note that you move
faster if you jump, but don’t worry too much, you won’t need to use it
much, and only use it when a stuntman flies out at the opposite side of
the window that you are standing on. Be quick however because you’ll
often need to jump back to the other side immediately. There’s usually
a little room for error too (although sometimes you may be unlucky and
only 65 stuntmen will fly out) so don’t panic too much if you miss one.
You should have more than enough time to catch the 65 stuntmen you need
to gain a five star rating here.

5.4 WATERWHIRL

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

You might initially think that this is pretty hard to get five stars
on, but not so. If you can manage to get three stars, you shouldn’t
have any problems getting five. I actually found a neat little trick
that is almost guaranteed to net you five stars. Start the stage by
jumping the pole every time it gets near you. Keep your eye on the
timer, and continue jumping the pole until there’s about half the time
left. By now it should be getting faster, and this is when to pounce.
Begin hitting the pole (using black is easier than hitting A+B) and if
you waited long enough, it should be going fast enough to start
catching the CPU ninjas off guard. In fact, it should spin all the way
around and knock them all off, in which case just hit it back in the
opposite direction. Keep doing this for the remainder of the round, but
keep your guard up because one of the ninjas may manage to whack the
pole back at you. If the pole is spinning fast enough though they won’t
have much of a chance to know what hit them and the five stars should
be yours.

5.5 THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY PRINCESS

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Easy

This is actually easier to get five stars on than LEGEND OF THE DRUNKEN
BASTARDS. Kill as many ninjas as you can in the first section, but the
area where you can really cash in is just after this. Once the first
section falls down you’ll run across a bridge that also crumples and
then you’ll be left fighting on a square wooden platform for a while.
This is your chance to rack up the ninja kills. Use the knock-down and
taunt strategy, but don’t throw them off the edge if there’s a large
group of them. Just build up your super and let it rip. If you kill
enough ninjas on this square platform, just kill the rest as normal by
throwing them off the edge or into the poison gas at the end, just make
sure you don’t waste any time smashing open the door that leads into
the final section.

5.6 TO CATCH A PRINCESS

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

As with the WATERWHIRL stage, if you can net three stars here then it
isn’t a huge leap to hit five. The trick is to catch the princess as
she bounces back after knocking out a ninja. If you let her hit the
ground, you’ll waste valuable time trying to get to her and you’ll
never kill enough ninjas. Just be patient, catch the princess on the
rebound and make sure you aim your throw. Don’t panic when you seem to
be surrounded by ninjas, if you catch the princess you’ll have enough
time to turn around and kill them all. 25 ninja kills will give you
five stars.

5.7 FOUR POLES AND A PRINCESS

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Easy

This one shouldn’t be any problem for you once you know when to time
your princess catches. The only tricky part comes in knowing when to
press B to catch her. Even when the poles swing closer together, if you
have the timing right it’s no problem. You can also try and jump across
onto the other poles to knock the ninjas down that way, but it’s easier
just to stay on your pole, catch the princess and hurl it back at a
random enemy. Don’t bother jumping over it when it’s thrown at you, it
just wastes time. You only need to knock 12 ninjas off the poles to
gain five stars. Not hard at all, you can do it with more than half the
time still left on the clock.

5.8 LIGHTS! CAMERA! ATTACK!

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Again, as with RIOT ON THE SET, it’s not hard to hit three stars on
this one, but it can be a little tricky to hit five, especially when
those annoying white ninjas start spawning. Use the same strategies I
provided for RIOT ON THE SET though. You’ll meet some different enemies
but the same rules still apply. Knock down, taunt, throw off edge, save
your super attack when lots of ninjas are on screen, repeat.

5.9 NIGHT OF THE LIVING FOG

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Hard

This scenario is weird. Weird in the fact that it’s not all that
difficult to hit three stars, but finding enough ninjas to kill to hit
five stars seems to be elusive. First things first, you obviously need
to kill quite a lot of ninjas in this one. Secondly, don’t use the
spike traps to kill them. That’s right, you heard it right here
folks...don’t use the spike traps to kill the enemy ninjas. Your star
rating doesn’t go up very far at all if the ninjas are killed by the
spike traps. You can find at the end that you’ve killed 60 or so ninjas
but only have four stars, and this is why. Instead, knock them down, taunt
them and toss them into the fog. Once your super is built up, use it as
soon as you can, even if you’ve only got one or two enemies on screen.
You need to kill a lot of ninjas, and you need to kill them quickly.
The first section is where you’ll need to get the most ninja kills.
You’ll need to be over three stars by the time you reach the Ying/Yang
and you begin your downward fall. If you aren’t, then forget it because
you won’t get enough ninjas to kill in the final section. In the final
section, again don’t use the spike traps to kill the ninjas…knock down,
taunt, throw them off the edge and use your super as soon as you can.
Also with this one, you only get about the equivalent of half a star
after you defeat the boss, which means you’ll need to do all the work
as you make your way up to him. Good luck.

5.10 TOMB ROBBER

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Enter the Pac-Man! Or, Pac-Fu…anyway, you’ll probably find three stars
to not be a problem here. Five stars can be somewhat more difficult,
but here’s the trick. Read what it tells you before you start. Use the
directional pad, not the analogue stick. When you use the D-Pad you can
turn much more sharply. The Vampires will actually chase you, they
don’t follow random patterns, but you move faster than them. So try
luring them away from where the rings are, then run away and grab the
rings. Sometimes though it’s actually faster to allow yourself to be
killed by a Vampire than to try and take the scenic route to avoid
them. To get five stars, you’ll need to collect 94 rings, which is ALL
of the rings.

5.11 FRY HARD

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

This one isn’t too hard. Knock the ninjas down, taunt, and then throw
them into the mouth and hit the switches, using your super when there’s
a lot of enemies on the screen. You’ll no doubt need to try a few times
to get the five stars, but it’s not too hard.

5.12 GIGANTIC CRACK

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

The difference whether you get five stars or just four on this stage
comes right at the beginning. This is where you’ll need to kill as many
ninjas as you can. Don’t throw them off the edge after you knock them
down. Knock them down, taunt, then knock another down and taunt until
you have built up your super. Kill all the ninjas on the screen and
repeat. You should be able to do this at least twice before you are forced
to need to start moving. If you manage to do that, you’re well on your
way to gaining five stars. Kill the rest of the ninjas by throwing them
into the water after taunting them, use your super whenever you build
it up, and knock some of the ninjas off the railing when the ship
begins to sink. Take care of the boss at the end and the five stars are
yours.

5.13 SEAL OF DESTINY

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Welcome to what can be one of the most annoying mini-games. You’ll need
to throw out lifesavers to the drowning ninjas, but watch out for the
seal that’ll throw them back at you. A useful tip is that when you see
the ninjas pop out of the water, they will be waving their arms. If
they are not waving their arms, it means a seal is about to pop up in
front of them, so don’t throw the lifesaver. Don’t wait until the seal
goes though, throw lifesavers out to the other ninjas while you are
waiting, but keep in mind that two or even three seals can pop up at
once and you won’t have a choice but to wait. You can afford to be hit
by a seal once near the beginning, but not near the end, so if you are
hit at the beginning, don’t worry too much, you’ll probably still get
five stars as long as you don’t get hit again. You’ll need to rescue 50
ninjas to get five stars on this one.

5.14 BIG TROUBLE ON LITTLE ICEBERG

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Hard

Oh yuck. I really despise this stage in Ninja Challenge. This one is
actually pretty damn tough to get a five star rating on, although it
wouldn’t seem like it at first glance. Obviously, before you do
anything else at the start, you’re going to need to run into the walls
and knock the ice down to open up some gaps. Run along the outside and
hit as many walls as you can and open up a couple of holes and knock
the first three ninjas off as soon as you can. While you’re waiting for
the second wave to spawn, use the opportunity to knock down a few more
walls. Again, knock off the second wave as quickly as you can but be sure
not to get knocked off yourself. It’s also very easy to slide off without
anyone touching you, make sure you turn in the opposite direction to
where you are sliding and use X to try and keep yourself on the ice. After
the second wave you’ll need to attend to two more waves on ninjas, make
sure all the outside ice walls are knocked down and don’t show any
mercy. You’re actually more likely to lose all your lives here than to
run out of time, so be careful because the ninja AI here is
surprisingly good. You’ll need to defeat four waves, or 18 ninjas to
get five stars.

5.15 BEHIND THE SCENES BRAWL

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

You’ll be facing all of the tougher types of ninja in this fight so you
wouldn’t expect it to be all that easy. But thankfully, it’s not all
that hard. Just use the same strategies as RIOT ON THE SET and LIGHTS!
CAMERA! ATTACK! Knock the ninjas down, taunt, then throw them off the
edge, and save your super attack for when a lot of ninjas are on
screen. As long as you don’t take too long to kill the ninjas, this
shouldn’t be all that difficult for you. You’ll probably need to kill
about 32 Ninjas to get five stars, depending on how often you use your
super.

5.16 ENTER THE DINO

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

This can be a confusing level at first, but once you know what’s
coming, you shouldn’t have too many problems. You’ll probably notice at
the beginning of the stage that your star power doesn’t increase all
that much when you kill ninjas, so taunt and use your super as much as
possible. Obviously don’t use it when there’s only one ninja on screen,
but you get the idea. Stay out of the water, and if you do accidentally
fall in, tap A quickly to try and jump out. When you get to the large
frog heads, this is the best and easiest time to rack up the ninja
kills. Even the white ninjas won’t stand much of a chance here. Just
hit them a few times and even if they block your hits, they’ll be
pushed into the piranha infested water where they’ll jump out or be
eaten. If they jump out, just repeat the process, they normally
wouldn’t be able to jump out a second time. After the frog heads get
back on the raft, rack up a few more kills and if you played your cards
right and killed enough ninjas with your super at the beginning, you’ll
have five stars by the time you reach the boss. Dispose of him and
that’ll be that.

5.17 CLIMBING FISH, FALLING TURTLE

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Hard

This is undoubtedly one of the hardest scenes in the game to gain a
five star rating on. You need to grab the turtles as they reach the top
of the waterfall, and throw them down at the fish that’s sweeping from
side to side. You don’t have very long to grab the turtles though, and
there isn’t much margin for error when throwing them. You can miss him
once or twice at the beginning, but miss him even once after you’ve hit
him 4 or 5 times and it’s goodnight. Keep in mind that if you get hit
by a turtle you’ll drop the turtle you are carrying. If you see a
turtle sliding across to attack you, jump over it, but you can throw the
turtles in mid-air so don’t let that stop you. You cannot throw the
turtles at an angle, you can only throw them straight down. That
combined with the fact that you don’t move very quickly makes this
level very tough. You’ll no doubt be bashing your head on the control
with this one, it definitely isn’t easy to gain five stars. Once the
fish starts getting faster, time your turtle throws so that he actually
moves into them. For example, if the fish is moving left, throw the
turtle down slightly to his left so his moves into it. If you try
throwing it directly at him once he’s moving faster, you’ll miss.
You’ll need to hit mister fish 14 times to gain five stars.

5.18 FISH OF FURY

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Our friend the giant fish is back and this time you’ll be fighting
ninjas on giant lily pads. This one actually isn’t all that difficult.
Knock the ninjas down when you can and taunt them, and save your super
for when a lot of ninjas are on the screen. You can gain a lot of kills
by using the frog head strategy in ENTER THE DINO, hit the ninjas, even
if they are blocking, and you should knock them into the water where
they’ll be promptly eaten by the little fishies. Just avoid falling
into the water yourself, avoid the big fish when it comes up to eat
the lily pads and use your super whenever possible and you’ll have five
stars in the bag.

5.19 REVENGEANCE DAY

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

Ah…a fun level. Provided you don’t take too long killing the ninjas at
any point in the stage, gaining five stars shouldn’t really be much of
a problem. Use the bombs at the beginning to rack up some easy kills,
and try to get your super powered up inside the elevator and let it
loose before it crashes. Always try and keep ahead of the CPU ninjas
when making the big jumps, because you can pummel them before they hit
the ground on the other side and kill them easily. Once you’re on the
flying saucer, build up your super and use it as much as possible. By
the time you reach the boss it’s possible to have five stars already,
so just get rid of her and end the level.

5.20 INVASION OF THE BRAIN SNATCHER

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

This is a fun little mini-game. You’ll need to chase the brains around
the flying saucer, pick them up and throw them into the box on the far
side of the screen. Herd them like sheep so they are all in a group and
pick them off one by one. Once there isn’t a large number anymore it
gets a little tougher but the same rules still apply. If you can get
three stars here, it won’t take much more to get five. Throwing 14
alien brains into the box will land you a five star rating, which means
you need to get all of them in there. The clock is your biggest enemy
here, don’t waste time!

5.21 CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE WORST KIND

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

The main thing to remember with this one is kill the enemies as quickly
as possible. Build up your super and save it when there are a lot of
enemies on the screen. The white ninjas can be real pains here with the
wobbly flying saucer, but if you’ve got this far it shouldn’t be
anything you can’t handle. You don’t need to kill that many ninjas
here…If you use your supers wisely you’ll only need to kill about 13 to
get the five stars.

5.22 EVERYBODY’S A CRITIC

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Easy
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

This level is actually quite easy. Keep in mind that three stars isn’t
the pass mark in this level, the pass mark is four stars. But we are
after five stars so here’s how you go about it. You’ll be fighting each
of the characters but they will also attack you with their stunt
double. It’s not that hard at all to nab five stars here. Knock them
down, taunt, throw them off the edge, repeat until you have your super
built up. You need to make sure you use your super often though (at
least three times…that is, six kills using your super) or you won’t get
the five star rating you are after. Wait until you have two enemies on
the screen before using your super, and five stars on this scenario are
as easy as that. They will very rarely attack you simultaneously, it’s
normally just one at a time, which makes your job a lot easier.

5.23 SHAO TING’S BIG END

Three Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate
Five Star Rating Difficulty: Moderate

You don’t have a choice here, it’s get five stars or else. But don’t
worry, it’s not that difficult. You have five lives, but Shao Ting has
some pretty strong attacks to the extent that he can kill you with just
a few hits, and he enjoys taunting you a lot meaning you really need to
watch out for his super attack. Keep him on the defensive as much as
you can. When you knock him down taunt away, and use the opportunity to
pick up boxes or whatever else has fallen into the ring to throw at him
while he’s on the ground as it does some damage to him. Don’t bother
throwing things at him when he’s on his feet though because he’ll just
catch them and throw them straight back. Knock him down with combos,
taunt him as much as you can and let those super attacks go as soon as
possible. As long as you don’t allow him any room to move he’s pretty
much yours. Don’t allow him to get on the offensive though because he
can really hurt you.
