Welkom in weer een van mijn FAQs. Zoals gewoonlijk vind je geen woord over het
spel dat ik beschrijf in de introductie. Ik zal de FAQ niet meer updaten nadat
ik de Complete versie heb uitgebracht. Je kunt me nog steeds tips en vragen
sturen over dingen die er nog niet instaan maar alleen als ze echt groot zijn,
zal ik ze nog in de FAQ zetten. Het is namelijk veel werk om voor iets klein te
updaten.

[A] Ja, waarom zou dat slecht zijn. Zet alleen je Xbox uit wanneer het

[A] Nee. Je kan wel een modchip laten zetten maar dit is gevaarlijk en
illegaal. Je zal hierdoor ook geen Xbox Live kunnen nemen.

[A] Xbox. XBOX, xbox, xBOX, en X-Box zijn allemaal fout. Voor mensen die de
Xbox en Microsoft haten zijn er de volgende namen: Nix-box en
Micro$oft.
[6] [Q]. Kan ik een toetsenbord of muis gebruiken?
[A] Nee, Microsoft deed dit niet omdat de mensen nu al beweren dat het een
vereenvoudigde computer is. Het kan wel zijn dat anderen met zo'n
accessoires komen.

[A] Nee. Xbox Live zal dus alleen speelbaar zijn als je reeds een kabel of
een ADSL aansluiting hebt.

[A] Ja, speciaal voor het spel 'The House of de Dead 3' komt er een. Of
deze lightgun compatibel zal zijn met 100 Hertz televisies is nog niet
geweten.

[10] [Q]. Kan ik CD-RW afspelen op mijn Xbox?
[A] Dat hangt af van het type CD-Rom lade je hebt. Die van Thompson kan
geen gekopieerde CDs afspelen. Die van Samsung en Philips wel.

[A] Mp3 werkt NIET, alleen het gewone Cd formaat werkt.

[A] Bij Memory ("geheugen") kan je de data op je harde schijf veranderen,
verwijderen of te kopiëren naar een geheugenkaart. Bij Music
("Muziek") kan jejouw volledige Compact Disks naar je Harde schijf van
8 GigaByte kopiëren. Bij Settings ("Instellingen") kan je al de
instellingen van je Xbox veranderen zodat hij perfect aan je noden is
aangepast.

[A] Je hebt een Ethernetkabel nodig voor elke Xbox die je gaat gebruiken.
Daarnaast heb je nog een Ethernet HUB nodig. Steek de kabels in de
Xbox en de HUB, zet de spellen aan en de Xbox doet al het werk voor
jou. Nu moet je alleen nog van je tegenstander winnen.

1 Geheugenkaart:

Alhoewel de Xbox een Harde Schijf bezit waar alle spellen worden opgeslagen,
bestaan er toch geheugenkaarten voor de Xbox. Microsoft heeft deze uitgebracht
zodat je naar vrienden kan gaan en hen tonen hoe goed jij wel bent zonder je
hele Xbox te moeten meenemen.

2 Controller:

De Xbox heeft twee verschillende soorten controllers, voor de mensen die graag
veel grip hebben op een controller is de originele controller die reeds in het
begin bestond te gebruiken. Maar mensen met kleine handen zouden beter voor de
Controller S gaan. Dit is een herwerkte versie van de originele controller die
veel kleiner is dan het origineel.

3 DVD kit:

Dit accessoire is eigenlijk een flauwe zet van Microsoft. In tegenstelling tot
de Playstation 2 moet je om DVDs te spelen op je Xbox deze kit kopen. Ze zal
je ongeveer 25 euro kosten.

4 Hoofdtelefoon:

Dit is iets dat vooral bij Xbox Live veel verkocht zal worden. Via deze
hoofdtelefoon kan je praten met je tegenstanders terwijl je on-line speelt.
Voor de mensen die liever op de achtergrond blijven is er ook een optie om je
stem te veranderen. Vooral handig als je tegen een vriend van je speelt die
niet mag weten dat je een Xbox hebt.

INTERVIEW VAN IGN MET DAVID HUFFORD:

IGN: Where do you see Xbox the day of launch and where do you think it will be
at this time next year?
David Hufford: We've only been in the business for a year, but it feels like
we've been in it for ten years. We had a fantastic launch. We've had some dog
days where we weren't bringing the games fast and furious enough, but now I
think we're at the acceleration point. I really think that this holiday with
games like Splinter Cell, Unreal Championship, the launch of Xbox Live, the
great bundle that we have out there -- we're hitting our stride. And we're
showing that we are capable of taking a great launch and building on it.
A year from now I think Xbox Live is going to show its strength and show
people that our approach to online gaming is the right one. That it's
absolutely imperative when you're building out services to unify the
experiences for people so that they have a consistent user experience. And
that it's damn fun to play with other people from around the world and talk to
them in any game that you're playing. And it'll go beyond what we know Xbox
Live today. Think more features that are more for gamers -- tournaments,
clans. Community development will be the next big thing Xbox Live focuses on.
And I think by next holiday we'll be in a position month to month, week to
week, of performing much better than we have month to month, week to week in
the past twelve months.
IGN: Is Microsoft planning anything special for November 15 2003?
DH: I think right now we're just trying to get through [Friday]. Once we get
through [Friday] and we really focus on charging hard through the Christmas
season, then we'll look at how the stars are aligning for a second-year
anniversary of Xbox and the one-year of Xbox Live. This time really just fell
in our laps. We were looking at our calendar and it was J Allard who said,
"Why wouldn't we pick the 15th of November to launch Xbox Live?" It was a
brilliant call and it's a date and time that gamers remember. Yeah, I wouldn't
be surprised to see us do something special next year.
IGN: Has Xbox Live met or exceeded expectations?
DH: I think it's exceeded expectations. I think people always knew,
internally, that we had the wherewithal to develop a kick ass online service,
the question was could we do it in a console friendly way. When I look at the
execution in all the games that we're playing online these days, the execution
is darn near flawless. The gameplay experiences without any lag, with great
voice communication, the ability to know when your friends are online and find
them easily. All of that sounded really good on paper, but the execution is
everything. It turns out that the team executed against a brilliant plan.
IGN: How will downloadable content factor into the success of Xbox Live?
DH: I think downloadable content will prove to be a very important part of the
online experience. You know there's an initial group of pioneer publishers who
are going to take some risks and chances just to see how enticing this is for
gamers. Splinter Cell is the perfect example of [this]. By the time they ship
their versions for PS2 and GameCube, we'll probably already be seeing content
downloads available on Xbox Live. And I think once they show this is a
desirable feature, other games companies will soon follow.
IGN: Can you explain the process for downloading content using Xbox Live?
DH: That's something that we're talking with companies like Ubi Soft right now
about. The content will live on the Xbox Live servers. And our goal is to make
the content downloads so simple, with the click of a button the data is
downloaded onto the hard drive and into the game you go.
IGN: Will users be able to delete downloaded content off their hard drive and
if so how?
DH: That is something that the product team is certainly concerned with and
looking at. And they will find ways to allow people to manage content
appropriately. So that's certainly something that we've had our eye on as
we've talked about content downloads, and I think when the times right, when
the engineers are ready to let us talk we'll let the cat out of the bag.
IGN: Why did Microsoft go with broadband for Xbox Live and is there any
concerns over any lack of broadband penetration?
DH: Our decision was based on looking at the future at the ten-year plan and
working back from ten years. Where we want to be ten years from now it's very
obvious that we think social entertainment will play a key role in where we
want to be. And then we also looked at the dynamics of dividing up your world
and having a group of broadband and a group of narrowband providers and it
flies in the face of everything video games stand for. A divided platform is
not a good platform for developers and it's not a good platform for people who
have to play games against people who are running at lowest common denominator
speeds. We felt that we didn't want to fragment the market, we didn't want to
confuse developers about which technology to take most advantage of. We wanted
to push broadband, hoping that it will help push the adoption of broadband
across the world. We're confident in ten years, dialup will feel like eight-
track cassettes do today.
IGN: How will paying for content work on Xbox Live and are there any
limitations to what a third-party company can charge?
DH: We are working with our publishers to work together to define the
different payment plans. Things will evolve on a game-by-game basis. There
won't be any blanket way that additional payments will come to the user. We'll
look at each game independently, we'll work with the publishers, ultimately
it's their game, it's their business model. But we will let them know, we'll
be sharing a lot of information about what people who play on Xbox Live are
interested in paying for. And we'll be working closely with them to talk to
customers. We'll make sure those offerings are enticing and that they can't
miss. I think a lot of people wondered a year ago if we charged for the
[online] services, $49.95, whether people would actually pay for that. And as
you've seen from the beta, 35,000 people later [before launch], it feels like
people will pay if you build the right content.
IGN: For 2003, will all genres be encompassed in Xbox Live?
DH: We certainly feel very confident about the initial launch games that we've
got. We did an analysis of the review scores people have given our launch
games, and when you look at the titles it's very impressive and when you look
at the ratings it's very impressive. In terms of broadening, our goal is to
bring in the masses and in order to do that we have to have a variety of
content available for everybody. You will see RPGs absolutely on the service,
you will see more action games on the service, you will see games and even
other forms of interactive entertainment that take advantage of the broadband
connection in the Xbox. We're going to be looking at ways to blow open the
doors to bring more and more people into video games and specifically onto
Xbox.
IGN: How does Microsoft plan to get the word out about Xbox Live?
DH: Well, phase one is all about capturing the imagination of game players,
the hardcore gamers. We are very confident that through word of mouth and some
grassroots advertising that we're talking directly to the people we believe we
can capture in this first phase. As we go beyond phase one, into the spring
and into the summer and then into next fall, I think you'll see that we'll be
spending more money advertising Xbox Live and promoting it as we get more
content and even broader content, as we talked about in the previous question,
that appeals to a wider audience of folks. And as broadband, of course,
continues to grow and grow we think that the broader advertising for Xbox Live
will kick in, it's just not in this phase.
IGN: What is Microsoft doing to encourage more third-party publishers to make
their games Live enabled?
DH: We're talking with every third-party company about expanding their
businesses into online games and specifically Xbox Live. I think they want to
see some proof, they want to see Microsoft really commit itself to making
online gaming a mass market medium. They want to see that game publishers are
diving in head-first and really going for it. They want to see that consumers
want this type of experience before many of them take the risk. We believe
these early days are the days when we'll be tested and will be proving
ourselves to them. We're very confident in our plan and we think at the end of
the day all third parties will realize it benefits them to publish their games
for Xbox Live.
IGN: How will Microsoft entice casual gamers to get interested in Live?
DH: Content, content, content. It's all about the games. We will bring more
people to Xbox Live by broadening the portfolio offerings. Bringing in more
racing games. Keep delivering great sports games. Deliver some experiences
that we don't typically think of as games on the [Live] service. But things
that have a really broader appeal beyond the hardcore action games and RPGs
that we think of today. And I also think word of mouth. This is the kind of
entertainment that can spread like wildfire. All it takes is a few thousand
people going over to their buddies house and seeing how they play and connect
with other people around the world and talk to each other. It begins to infect
neighborhoods and eventually people will realize this is the ultimate cool and
they've got to get online on Xbox Live to play games.
IGN: What is Microsoft's goal for Live subscribers this time next year?
DH: We think we'll exceed 100,000 people by the end of this year. The beta has
gotten us 35,000 paid subscribers already and we think we can easily attain
the 100,000 mark by the end of this holiday season. By the end of next
holiday, it's hard to predict this far in advance. To make that forecast you
really have to have a better feel for what the games are going to be that will
be released in that time frame. We'll probably make some of those types of
predictions maybe at E3.

WAT IS XBOX LIVE?

Het is de online service van Microsoft, ze werd voorgesteld op E3 2002 en het
zal om een gesloten netwerk gaan. Tegen mensen op een andere console spelen
zal dus niet gaan. Buiten je Xbox Live pakket heb je ook een
breedbandaansluiting nodig. Je hebt dus ADSL of Telenet nodig. Er zal geen
ondersteuning van 56k modems zijn.

WANNEER ZAL XBOX LIVE VERKRIJGBAAR ZIJN?

Microsoft heeft besloten Xbox Live exact een jaar na de lancering van de
console op de markt te brengen. Op 14 maart 2003 zouden de Belgen met een Xbox
dus normaal online moeten kunnen spelen tenzij ze een modchip in hun console
hebben gestoken want dan raken ze niet op Xbox Live.

HOEVEEL ZAL HET KOSTEN?

Mensen zullen een pakket moeten kopen van 50 Dollar. Dit pakket zal enkele
demo's bevatten samen met de hoofdtelefoon en een disk om Xbox Live te
installeren. In de prijs van dit pakket zit ook een jaar gratis Xbox Live
inbegrepen. Na een jaar wordt de prijs per maand 10 Dollar. Dit moet wel via
een kredietkaart betaald worden.

UNLOCK TEGEN DOWNLOAD:

Niet voor elk spel zal je de extra levels moeten downloaden. Er zullen ook
spellen zijn waarbij je door te surfen op Xbox Live een Key ontvangt, die Key
zal bepaalde extras die al op de sik staan vrijmaken. Zo zal de demo van
MotoGP enkele extras vrijmaken bij het spel MotoGP. Het voordeel hiervan is
dat er weinig plaats wordt ingenomen op je Harde Schijf want extra levels
nemen veel plaats in die je NIET kan verwijderen volgens IGN.

GRATIS EXTRAS?

Er wordt verwacht dat het eerste jaar de meeste extra levels die je kan
downloaden gratis zullen zijn maar eens nadat het eerste jaar gedaan is dat je
voor de extra's zal moeten betalen omdat het ontwikkelen ervan veel geld kost.

WACHT DAN MAAR EENS TOT DE PLAYSTATION 2 EN DE XBOX HET TEGEN ELKAAR OPNEMEN
De grote onbekende in de strijd tussen de verschillende game-consoles van de
volgende generatie is zonder twijfel de Xbox van Microsoft. Hoewel het bedrijf
natuurlijk van alles afweet van software en het spelen op computers, wordt dit
de eerste keer dat ze zich ook op het gebied van de game-hardware begeven.
(Oké, ze maken al de te gekke, maar nogal dure Sidewinder joystick voor
computers, maar we hebben het hier over complete apparaten.)
Voordat je de kansen van de software-reus op dit gebied direct al opgeeft,
moet je niet vergeten dat er ooit een zekere producent van stereoapparatuur
was die begon met maken van game-consoles, ook al werd er gezegd dat die ook
geen enkele kans zou maken. Dat was Sony, en nu, zo'n vijf jaar en 70 miljoen
verkochte systemen later, zijn ze de onbetwiste aanvoerder van deze markt.
De makkelijkste manier om de Xbox te beschrijven is misschien wel door uit te
leggen wat er niet in zit. Het is geen computer zonder het toetsenbord en de
monitor, bedoeld om computergames op te spelen. Het is een specifiek voor
videogames bedoeld, op DVD gebaseerd systeem waarop eigenlijk alleen software
kan worden gebruikt die specifiek is ontwikkeld voor dit systeem (en DVDs
natuurlijk.) Met andere woorden als je van plan was je Xbox je
belastingsaanslag te laten invullen of er mee een brief naar Tante Truus te
schrijven, dan had je het verkeerd.
Als je echter op zoek bent naar een machine die de huidige technologische
grenzen tot het uiterste verschuift dan heb je hier heel wat potentieel bij de
hand. Volgens het bedrijf levert de Pentium III processor een grafisch
potentieel dat drie keer zo groot is als dat van de allernieuwste consoles,
zoals de Playstation 2 of de Dreamcast. En de speciaal ontworpen grafische
chip van de Xbox geproduceerd samen met NVIDIA, de producent van 3D-grafische
semi-conductors levert meer dan 200 miljoen polygons per seconde.
De Xbox wordt ook de eerste machine met een ingebouwde harddrive en breedband
Internetaansluiting. De mogelijkheid om op het Internet aan te sluiten spreekt
natuurlijk voor zich - je kunt dan online spelen en extra niveaus en
personages downloaden - maar om te begrijpen waarom er een harddrive nodig is
moet je iets afweten van hoe disks werken. Je weet dat de actie even wordt
onderbroken als je in Resident Evil op de Playstation de ene kamer uitgaat en
de andere binnengaat. Als je een harde schijf van 8 GigaByte harddrive hebt
zoals bij de Xbox creëer je een tijdelijke opslagplaats voor zulke informatie
waardoor de disk niet zo vaak hoeft te worden gebruikt en de actie draadlozer
verloopt.
Al onder de indruk? Sony wel in ieder geval. Het bedrijf was zelfs zo onder de
indruk dat in allerijl plannen werden aangekondigd om een aparte
harddrive/netwerk aansluiting voor de Playstation 2 beschikbaar te maken nadat
de specificaties voor de Xbox werden bekendgemaakt.
Hoewel het aantrekken van ontwikkelaars altijd moeilijk is bij nieuwe
systemen, zit het Xbox op een paar punten toch mee wat dat betreft. Ten eerste
het grote vermogen wat vooruitstrevende producenten van games altijd heel
aantrekkelijk vinden. Ten tweede wordt er bij de Xbox gebruik gemaakt van
bestaande PC-architectuur en ontwikkeling-"tools", wat wil zeggen dat
spelontwikkelaars niet helemaal van voren af aan hoeven te beginnen. De
Playstation 2 daarentegen is wel eens beschreven als een absolute ramp voor
programmeurs.
Naast de eigen ontwikkelaars van Microsoft zelf, hebben er meer dan 18
prominente ontwikkelingsstudio's onder het label van Microsoft aan het werk
gaan. "Door de geavanceerde technologie van de Xbox beschikbaar te maken voor
de beste ontwikkelaars van games, kan Microsoft de consumenten ervan
verzekeren dat ze direct bij de lancering al met ongelofelijke games aan de
slag kunnen." Naast Lionhead Sattelites heeft het bedrijf de expertise
ingeroepen van bedrijven zoals Stormfront Studios van de NASCAR serie; Kodiak
Interactive vaan WCW Mayhem; Totally Games opgericht door Lawrence Holland
(schepper van X-Wing); Rainbow Studios bekend om de MotorCross Madness games
en Universal Interactive Studios van Spyro en Crash. Deze hebben Microsft
allemaal al van enkel spellen verzekerd.
En alsof dat nog niet genoeg was heeft Microsoft recent de opkomende
ontwikkelaar Bungie Software opgekocht. Hiermee heeft Microsoft de exclusieve
rechten verkregen op Halo, de shooter op de Xbox.
Hoewel de specificaties er goed uitzien, er een groeiende lijst van
ontwikkelaars meewerkt en Microsoft er met man en macht acherstaat, zal de het
toch voor de Xbox niet allemaal automatisch van een leien dakje gaan. Als hij
in het najaar voor het eerst in Amerika in de winkels verschijnt, zal de
Playstation 2 al een heel jaar verkrijgbaar zijn geweest, en de Dreamcast
viert dan al zijn tweede verjaardag. Bovendien zal het nieuwe supersyteem van
Nintendo ook in de winkels liggen rond die tijd.
Maar we weten ook dat Microsoft al eerder onbekende markten heeft veroverd.
Dat is ook de reden waarom het bedrijf oorspronkelijk in de juridische
moeilijkheden belandde. Als het bedrijf zich deze keer net zo sterk opstelt
als tegen Netscape dan kunnen Nintendo, Sony en Sega hun borst natmaken.

Als je de schrijver wilt bereiken, kun je me mailen op fa354230 [at] skynet
[dot] be, vervang [at] met @ en de [dot] met een punt. Dat is alleen daar zodat
de mensen dit bestand niet kunnen scannen voor mijn mail adressen. Vermeld de
naam van de game als onderwerp. Ik aanvaard suggesties, vragen, dingen die je
wilt dat ik weet maar geen spam, porn, of iets anders van die soort. Dan wordt
je bericht genegeerd en alle toekomstige mails geblokkeerd. Hou je niet gewoon
van Block Features.
Ik heb geen AIM account maar wel een MSN Account. Je mag me toevoegen aan je
lijst als je vragen hebt over FAQs schrijven of gewoon wilt praten over games.
Als je vragen hebt over hoe je een game moet uitspelen waarover ik een FAQ
schreef, moet je me dat niet op MSN vragen. Alles wat ik weet over de game
staat in mijn FAQ. Mijn MSN adres is fa34230 [at] skynet [dot] be. Als je mijn
ander adres al in je lijst hebt, moet je dit adres niet toevoegen. Ik gebruik

6.3- Milieu manifest - Belangrijk bij mijn grote FAQs! [A603]

Deze FAQ telt nu al meer dan 20 pagina's. Eens deze FAQ afgewerkt is, zal hij
waarschijnlijk meer dan 25 pagina's tellen. Als je deze FAQ zou uitprinten zal
het waarschijnlijk een hele dag duren. Het is ook mogelijk dat je printer
cartridges leeg worden. Dan moet je er nieuwe kopen en zoals je misschien al
weet, zijn die zeer duur. (Is misschien overdreven in de kleine FAQs.)
Als je iets wilt uitprinten, zal ik je niet tegenhouden maar print dan enkel
het stuk uit dat je wilt. Het afdrukken zal veel sneller gaan en je zult minder
papier en inkt verspillen. Als je de hele FAQ uitprint, kun je mij niet
verantwoordelijk stellen voor de mogelijke schade aan je printer of voor de
lege cartridges.
Ook voor het milieu is het overbodig afdrukken van delen van deze FAQ slecht.
Als je dit leest na het printen van de FAQ of de FAQ toch nog wil afrukken,
moet je weten dat je het leven van enkele bomen op je geweten hebt. Plant nu
best drie nieuwe bomen aangezien deze evenveel zuurstof aanmaken als één
volwassen boom. Je kunt er natuurlijk ook eentje planten als je deze FAQ niet
afdrukt. Bomen kunnen je fruit geven en in de zomer kun je in hun schaduw
zitten. Mail me als je het eens met me bent. Daarmee verspil je geen papier.

van de site waarop je deze FAQ leest als je de site leuk vindt. Anders zijn er
genoeg alternatieven die mijn FAQs ook hebben.

Het is een van de betere fora op GameFAQs and daar zijn een heleboel goede
schrijvers aanwezig die je kunnen helpen bij het schrijven van een FAQ. Zij
hebben me veel geholpen toen ik pas begon.

Je kunt alle FAQs die ik geschreven heb op de sites vinden op het onderstaande
lijstje. Zoals je misschien al gezien hebt, heb ik er al heel wat op mijn naam
staan. Omdat ik dit gratis doe en hier normaal niets voor terugkrijg, zou ik
het leuk vinden als je me vijf euro stuurt. Grapje, ik zou het beloning genoeg
vinden als je me geen haatmail of spam stuurt.
Zelfs als je zelf een FAQ wilt schrijven, moet je mij niet mailen. Meerdere
sites zoals http://members.optusnet.com.au/astroblue/faqwarp.html hebben een
goede uitleg om FAQs te maken. Als je mijn FAQ vindt op een site die niet bij
de copyright staat, moet je me mailen want zij gebruiken hem zonder
toestemming. Ik heb mijn werk op veel sites staan maar de volgende vier sites
hebben het grootste deel van hen.

Ik ga nu wat over mezelf praten. Ik werd geboren op 29 juli in 1987. Ik leef in
een rustig dorpje genaamd Vossem, dat dicht bij de hoofdstad van België,
Brussel ligt. Voor de idioten die dit lezen, België ligt tussen Frankrijk,
Nederland, Duitsland, Luxemburg en de Noordzee.
Op het moment dat ik dit, voor de eerste keer, schrijf, ben ik 16 jaar. Als je
dit leest na 29 juli 2004, ben ik al ouder dan 16. Ik ben in Vossem naar de
lagere school geweest. Toen ik daar afstudeerde ging ik iets verder naar de
middelbare school, naar het Heilig Hart College in Tervuren waar ik vier jaar
lang Latijn gevolgd heb. In het vijfde en zesde jaar heb ik Latijn laten vallen
voor een leukere richting, Wiskunde-Wetenschappen. Nog een jaar en ik kan naar
de universiteit.
Mijn grootste hobby is het spelen van videospelletjes. Mijn favoriete spellen
zijn Final Fantasy VIII (Ja, VIII en niet VII) en Super Mario World. Mijn
favoriet genre zijn Role Playing Games zoals Final Fantasy. Daarnaast lees ik
ook stripverhalen en gamemagazines zoals NGC. Mijn tweede hobby is het
schrijven van FAQs.
Ik surf ook veel op het Internet. De meeste sites die ik bezoek zijn Engelse
gamesite maar er zijn er ook Nederlandse bij. Ik schrijf zelfs reviews en
dergelijke voor een gamesite, namelijk voor Gamed (http://www.gamed.nl) Het is
een jonge game site die in oktober 2003 online kwam. Het is ook de reden dat ik
veel minder aan mijn FAQs werk dan vroeger.
