Alien Hominid
Review by DigitalIncision
"Get it. Get it now."
I rarely will give a game a perfect score. I rarely will say I can't find a flaw in a game. Honestly, though, I can't find a flaw in this game. Theres no reason to give it any less than a ten, I can't give it a nine like some people who say "Because ten is perfect and that's impossible" Well that's stupid. Ten doesn't mean it's perfect, it just means it's better then all those nines out there. :D On to my review.
Graphics 10/10
This game is a side scrolling shooter. It's actiony. It's meant to not be complete 3D, with full scale modeling and all of that stuff. It achieves the graphical intent that it was going for therfore it's a success, therfore it merits a ten. The explosions are pretty, and your cute little Hominid will shoot multicolored and definately shiny blasts all across the screen, cutting up the FBI agents and such as you do so.
Sound 9/10
The sound gets a nine only because there is no recognizable music, or while it still exists, you cannot differentiate much between tracks, and it leaves no lasting impression on the mind. The tracks themselves are really good, if you go into the files and listen to them seperately, they just don't tie in very well. Music aside, the overall sound of this game is thouroughly enjoyable. Each type of projectile has it's own sound, and you are rewarded by your foes screaming, or pleading, or just melt away into acid as you destroy them completely. Biting off thier heads makes a prompt chomping sounds, followed by several screams from the other agents around you. Everything makes a sound on every impact, and every explosion sounds enjoyable. It's great.
Controls 10/10
Some have said it's hard to master the controls of this game. That is not so. They simply start off on medium difficulty, which in this game is actually really hard. Play the first three levels on TS mode and get the feel of the game, and master all the basic maneuvers. All maneuvers, coincidentally, are basic, so you'll be a Hominid master in no time.
Story 10/10
Hey, it's simple. A trigger happy FBI agent blasted you out of the sky. You travel to three seperate core areas battling your way to your ship so you could get off this accursed planet. You get help along the way by the mysterious Fat Kids. They got skillz, seriously, they can break it down. It's awesome.
Gameplay 10/10
Such an immerisve experience, you'll find yourself pretty much loving yourself because of all the sweet moves you can pull off. You'll grin with satisfaction as you jump into the air and cut an agent from the rope he's sliding down on, and you'll be ever so satisfied everytime you learn a bosses strategy and dispose of him without a scratch. Basic movement is handled with the D-Pad or the Control Stick Left, your A button is jump, you can hold down X to charge up a rather powerful and extremely useful charged shot that I didn't know existed on my first time through, or you can press it once to fire a shot. The B button will handle your grenades, and pressing Down and Y will dig you underground to dodge certain attacks, or to pull your enemies to their deaths with the X button, again. Triggers evade, and pressing Down and A will latch you onto your foes heads. It's all really simple, and everything moves very simply, yet the game is very fast paced, and in no way is it easy. It'll give you a challenge, but it's so damn fun.
Replay Value 8/10
This game is short, and you could beat it in one sitting if you wanted to. It doesn't provide for instant replay, but for some reason I found myself playing it again the next day, and yet again the next day. It's a very fun game to have and play through, and then play through again occasionally. There are a few unlockables, in the form of hats, and they actually are pretty sweet, and a fun little addition to the game. This game is multiplayer, too, which attones for a lot of the replay value. You'll play this a lot. Bring a friend. It's awesomely fun. THe mini games are pretty cool too.
Overall 10/10
Hey, what can I say? This game ruled, there's nothing wrong with it really. Go get it.
