Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Review by cycloneous
"Great movies but. . ."
I was pretty psyched with the trailers for the game. They were very enticing and the game play from the previous games, from my understanding was going to be upgraded. This appears to be not the case.
Graphics wise, the game is superb. The side movies as you along are one of a kind, the detail is extremely excellent. You would think that was the actual game itself but it is not. So this left me with much to be desired throughout the game. The graphical displays of the environments were very good. Especially in the beginning with the ship.
The story line was good. Basically, you need to help Nick Fury defend his ship against Dr. Doom and his minions. As you go along, you are met with goals for each of the sections of the game. As you gain more experience your power increase in strength what you gain in your arsenal. I was quite pleased with this. This seemed to be the common theme for player advancement in marvel games; so expect this.
Here is where the game dies and makes the user/game player experience stink. For starters, the characters, during game play, are so small. Unless you are wearing some form of bi-focals to see the characters, seeing what you are doing in the game as it relates to the character size is quite difficult. This left me and those with me testing the game very disappointed. If you can't see what you're doing, because the characters are so small, how are you to enjoy the game? This was a big turn off. Hopefully in their next version they'l make the characters bigger. They should borrow a page from the Superman Returns game as far as the size of the character.
The controls is what makes the game tolerable. The button sequences are very easy to get used to. It seemed that Marvel was consistent here with the button controls.
Overall, it was an "okay" game, but the biggest pet peeve was the size of the characters. This left myself and my friends gravely disappointed. You would think Marvel would have changed it up a bit but this is not the case.
