Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Review by Galactus21
"Battle of heroes..."
What happens when you clash some of the world's greatest heroes against some of the most popular characters in gaming? You have an ultimate battle of wit, skill, and dream matches that fulfill fantasies of gamers and comic book readers. With a plethora of characters and a great combat system, there really isn't anything that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 doesn't have. The only thing that it's missing is the game being ported with little to no improvement.
With characters like Ryu, Ken, Strider, Wolverine, Psylocke, and Magneto, there were plenty of characters for fans to choose from. While some characters play similarly, there are a lot of characters that off a unique perspective to Capcom's amazing fighter. Characters like Guile and Ken kind of act like a filler for Ryu and Charlie, but in a way it still gives you some nice alternatives.
Even though the combat system isn't incredibly deep, there is still enough depth to warrant a purchase. When playing, it still requires plenty of skills. The controls were also very nicely implemented. But in all honesty, the game's single player like most fighting games isn't all that great unless you have a friend over. When you have a friend over though, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is especially fun. The best part of the combat system is the ability to mix combos up with special attacks. By doing so, it unleashes a very powerful attack.
In a three on three battles, it allows players to choose 3 characters from a plethora of characters. During battles, the players can mishmash between characters and change things up. One can also use teammates for some double team action. This type of game play gives the gamer more variety in the way the gamer attacks. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 already has very solid game play, but with this in there, it is enhanced even further.
The visual effects of the game still look quite nice. For the most part, it holds up quite well in comparison to a lot of other games. For a fighter, the graphics aren't necessarily a big thing, but it was a nice addition to such a good game. The musical scores for the most part are nice as well.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Xbox isn't quite like the Dreamcast version. It's still quite good, but when it was first introduced on the Dreamcast, it felt much more dynamic. It's still a very good fighting title for a system that is lacking in that area. It's probably dirt cheap in most places nowadays, but it's probably going to be difficult to snatch a copy up. I recommend buying it online because it's well worth it. It's a very good addition to the Xbox library.
