Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Review by RoxasANobody

"This game proves that most games can't beat their originals"

The Ebon Hawk is drifting in an unknown part of the galaxy, the crew is left with fuzzy heads and when you awaken you don't know what happened or what is going to happen. All you awaken to is an old lady and some weird story that you hope isn't real. What starts off to be something simple turns out to be worse and what turns out to be worse turns out to be a story called Star Wars . This game delivers, just not as well as the other game did.

Storyline (9/10)

The beginning of the game left many people wondering about what is happening. Just like any other great game in the world, they have a mysterious plot and they show you how everything starts. This is an amazing way to start the game, but they never explained what happened to the crew that was on board the Ebon Hawk before the new crew was. It left daunting memories in my head. Then it took me another two times to figure out the whole story. Many people have different theories on what has happened to the old crew, but for now lets not talk about what has happened then. This game also proves that the Xbox isn't just some crappy port that no one would like. This game gave the Xbox some well deserved credit. I would like to say this game would live up to it's predecessor, but there were to many glitches and to many openings in the game to actually get everything. In the original game you had a new story that no one knew about. Everything was new about that game and when you heard the ringing of the level up sound your heart would freeze because of such a wonderful sound. In this game you don't get that freeze because you know what will happen when you level up and it really isn't a great improvement.

The story has a lot of holes in it. Just like a contract that people sign, there are dozens of holes in it, but they are to lazy to actually look through it and they just sign it. This is exactly how this game is. Most people prefer the game play over the actual graphics. Some people just breezed through this game and thought it was alright. The storyline lovers, however, were left hanging. The ending was quite horrible and it made me feel like I was watching The Jedi Strike Back . They didn't do a good job on either of the endings. If you were following the dark side you get to throw your enemy off of the final stage and it looks exactly like the scene from The Jedi Strikes Back. If you were on the light side she just falls to the ground. You also get to learn that all the people in your party had the capability to become Jedi. If you didn't have a guide while playing this game, you wouldn't have known this. That is why there are a lot of holes in your contract! You want to fill them in, but every time you do they get a bigger hole stuck into them!

Also, this time your choices affect everyone around you. If you start to fall to the dark side your other characters who are highly affected by you will also fall to the dark side. If you start to fall to the light side your other characters who are highly affected by you will fall to the light side. This game added a bit of variety and made it a lot more fun to see what would happen if you mixed up friendships. You also have the ability to give characters their own free ability to hate or to like.

Graphics (8/10)

The graphics in this game are great. The only bad thing is the glitches. The programmers were doing a bad job at getting it in on time and they just rushed it. There is a glitch where if you save it right before Vrook, and then you let him out, but then you decide to turn off your game the next time you load the game he won't be there. That is an example of what happened to me and what could happen to you. This is a horrible display of effort. They rushed the game before Christmas so they could have many people buy it for Christmas gifts. Apparently when they tried to shove it out before then they couldn't because they weren't even done with the game development. So they delayed it a lot longer and now they came out with this game full of glitches. No matter where you walk, no matter where you go, there will always be a glitch right around the corner in this game.

They made up with the glitches with the map of the planet. The areas you get to walk around in are great and amazing. If you play in these areas you can feel the warmth of the atmosphere. However, this game could not beat out Manaan in graphics in the first game. They would have to do their best job on one world to beat out Manaan. Manaan had the best graphics, the best sound, and the best storyline in the history of games. If you wait and see, you recognize the company who did the first game did not help with the second. There were a lot of changes to the second game and the story. Why did LucasArts have to be so stupid? They could have had a better game and more fans to the Star Wars series. However, if you are a real fan of Star Wars you really wouldn't care about what they would do with a game like this.

Game play (10/10)

This is possibly the best game play on the Xbox console. You get to customize your character and all your other players. Anyone who has played the last game would know that was possible to, but there is more variety to this one. In this game you are automatically placed in a Jedi class, but you don't have your lightsaber. Later on the game you find out who actually has your old lightsaber and why it is gone. You don't have to make your character wield a lightsaber, when you get one, all the time though. They can wield blasters, grenades, and swords. You can customize your character to wield a double-bladed lightsaber without any penalties to your character. Usually when you wield two lightsabers or a double-bladed lightsaber you will miss a lot due to your inexperience with a lightsaber like that. Luckily there are skills in this game that change that around. It is great that the producers thought of a great system like this.

Old features come back like force run, force push, force pull, and force choke. In this game you can acquire the force choke if you are on the dark side or you can get a different element on the light side. The features are always different if you have a different weapon. If you have a blaster, then you can have, what the game calls feats, feats that upgrade your ability to wield the blaster. When your ability to enhance a certain weapon goes up the more chances you have of hitting the enemy. This is a great system they have used, and I hope they bring it back to the next game. You can also put on shields. The shields will stop attacks, stop blaster attacks, and even stop lightsabers from purging your health system! This may sound bad, but if you use this to your advantage then you can be the best Jedi out there.

If you use the D-pad to move on the control panel then you can pick Attack, Force moves, items, and shields. Left and right is to move left and right on the control panel and up and down on the D-Pad makes you switch between items or shields. In this game you can switch items in the midst of battle. You can switch to vibroblades, lightsabers, or blasters. This is another great system, so you can change just in case someone gets to close and you want to see a personal scar on their face. Have a nice time experimenting with this things.

Sound (10/10)

You can't downgrade Star Wars because of their music. The producers did a great job of implementing the right music at the right time. When they didn't it was so someone would have to think about what the music is trying to represent in the current situation. The dark side theme, the light side theme, and any other theme in general is another journey on the Star Wars time line. The music doesn't fail.

Replay Value (x)

There is no limit to how much you can play this game. I have acquired this game two years ago and I'm still playing it today. This is a great game, and I can't count how many times that I have played it.

Rent or Buy (BUY)

You should buy this game. Even if you aren't a Star Wars fan you should still buy this game. You can become a Star Wars fan just by playing these two games. They both represent the Xbox console and Star Wars really good. They acquire good prestige and eventually fans will whine about the series ending.

Pros
+ Great storyline
+ Great game play
+ Great character design
+ Great sound

Cons
- Bad glitches
- Storyline sometimes doesn't fit
