Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows
Review by MoeBear
"Death of a Classic"
INTRO
This is what you call death of a classic. This game has nothing to do with the older versions of Gauntlet. I mean the one before this on the xbox was outstanding, but this is something completely different. I would never of thought I would say this about a video game, but this is what has happened to this one. Too much technology killed it. They over did it, they should of left some things they way they where. It got updated too much and it looks like something completely different.
GAME PLAY
We all know the style and format of Gauntlet play. You go from dungeon to dungeon killing things left and right, while collecting special items. And you have four main characters to choice from. Guess what, things have changed now. The wizard, he is the worse character to use in this type of game.
This game has turned into a button masher. That's all you do from start to finish. Just keep pressing all the buttons, and hack and slash you way. There is no skill involved here. There are no more magic potions, or hero special items, or skill points to add. At the end of a level you buy special moves with the money you have earned. It doesn't really matter cause all you do is button mash. So in other words it is pointless. If you wondering what has happened to the potions, and how to kill death? Well now all characters have mana, and all you do is press a button, and kill death at will, with some mana being wasted. This is pointless too cause mana regenerates fast. Plus they give you a ton of food, as soon as you kill off tons of creatures; they drop food all over the place. Trust me this is more then enough for anyone.
APPEARANCE
This part of the game is excellent. Just like what you would expect from the xbox, nothing but top of the line graphics. I mean the characters, the background of the game levels are nicely done. It gives you a feeling like you're really in the game. Battle sounds, and the music its ok, but nothing to brag about.
OVERALL
If you enjoy this type of game style, then this is for you, if not, your just going to get board of smashing buttons over and over again. This game is more enjoyable if you're playing more then one person. A single player just doesn't cut it. It is hard for me to give a game higher then a five; if I didn't care enough to follow threw to the end. So for what I gave it, I thought it was fair enough.
