Star Wars: Obi-Wan

Review by masumane2

"I was looking forward to this game..."

I really was. I wanted this to be the Star Wars game that SHOWED the power of the Xbox. It didn't. It was less than mediocre, and if you don't believe me just go and look at other Xbox games like Silent Hill 2, Blood Omen 2, etc. Although it is COMPLETELY different than the other Star Wars games, it didn't have what it should have. What should it have had? Flying ships and lasers, big robots and space ships... That would have been cool. You just run around in this game and attack people and droids. Not fun, after about 3 hours of straight play. And trust me, I can go playing video games for up to 15 hours a day. Maybe more, maybe less. I remember Shadow of the Empire for the N64. That was a Star Wars game. I remember jumping off the train for fun. And flying some sort of ship. I'm not some big fan of Star Wars as you can see, but I know a bad game when I see one. And Obi-Wan ahead.

GRAPHICS
Well, if you can look, the graphics are nothing special. The people and robots are not going to amaze you if you are used to Halo or Final Fantasy 10. The facial expressions suck, they don't change and the mouths don't move either. This game could have been powered on Dreamcast. The animations are nothing spectacular, either. I am forced to give this...
4/10

SOUND
The sounds are not something to be celebrating either. The music is not new, and neither are the sounds. The sound effects have a medium variety, but medium won't do, will it? The Xbox has over 300 audio channels, and I don't think Lucas Arts made Obi-Wan takes advantage of that power. And they should have. Nothing good for the sound either.

GAMEPLAY
Ok, it gets a little better here. Emphasis on the little. You use both analogs to move and attack, which isn't bad, but you get to choose what direction your lightsaber moves. Sort of. You can only move it in three directions: down, left, and right. I thought it would be cool if you could make your own attacks, and make Obi-Wan emulate Cloud Strife's Omnislash or something. Besides that, all you do in the game is run and attack. Yes, it somehow gets boring after a while.
5/10

CONTROL
Probably the best element in the game, but that's not saying much. Obi-Wan is easy to control, but then again, Obi-Wan is the only thing you control. Fast reactions, and pressure based movements. Those are always good. That's all I have to say about it.
6/10

STORY
It's Star Wars stuff. I don't understand it much. But who cares about story line? (Don't answer that.) Storyline is probably what Star Wars is about, anyway. That's why it's a movie. This gets a high score, because it was good, I just wasn't paying attention.
7/10

REPLAY
I beat the game once, I don't plan on beating it again. Maybe when a friend asks how good it is, I'll show him. Then we'll play Halo, or a game that is good. The Jedi Battles, which is a 2 player mode, is quite boring. Small levels, no Co-op play, and few characters. Hardly anything for replay.
3/10

OVERALL
You won't want to pay $50 for this game, like unfortunate little me did. I didn't like it at all. Well, maybe a little. But not much. Now, go off and play a game that's worth some time, one completely not like this one, and make sure if it's a Star Wars game, that you actually do more than one thing, ok?
