"Looking for a good golf game? Don't look here..."

I've heard a lot about this game and seen ''decent'' reviews for it so I decided to rent it and try it out. After a couple of agonizing hours playing this game, I decided to quit before I blow up. I couldn't recommend this game to anyone looking for a good golf game.

This game has a few good things going for it. The graphics are top notch. The fairway, rough, and green are all very clear. The water looks amazing, and the characters are animated so well. The commentary is great too but after a while, you get sick of hearing the same things over again. The music is nice too as it's catered to the characters you use. The game modes are pretty good for multi-player. You can play stroke, match, skins, or multiple different types of games which involve a big deal of team play.

The controls of the game are a large negative aspect of the game. The way you hit using the analog stick is somewhat annoying when you first start playing. After a while, it gets too easy. I can hit 100% straight power shots about 95% of the time. When you aim the club so you hit the ball with some backspin, you'd expect the ball to either not roll as much as a normal hit or roll backwards slightly. Not with this game. You put backspin on the ball, expect it to roll forward a good 10 yards.

My main complaint would have to be the putting. You get a cursor which tells how far the ball will go with that much power. How wrong it is. On perfectly flat ground, the ball will fall short of where the cursor was by a yard or two. Also, the grid isn't exactly clear on how the lie of the green is. The green could be sloping hardcore to the right but it'll seem like it's a little slant. You find out too late while your ball rolls a couple yards away from the hole.

This game has great potential but the controls kill any chance for it to be great. If you're looking for a good golf game and own a ps2, get hot shots golf 3. But if you have an Xbox, wait for another game or play tiger woods.
