"Take your $30 and buy a GameBoy with Tetris, you'll be better off...."

Well, first off, let me say that when I saw the ads for the GBA version of Tetris Worlds, I was overjoyed, finally a new tetris game on GBA, maybe something better than the other portable version of Tetris.

I walk into the local gamestore and see Tetris Worlds for..... Xbox and GameCube? Whoa, this is odd, I don't remember seeing ads for this. Oh well, its $10 cheaper than the other 2 console versions, why not give it a try, I'm craving for some Tetris lovin' but this is not the case unfortunatley.

Gameplay: You'd think there's no way to mess up classic Tetris gameplay right? Well, you're wrong, THQ found a way somehow and man, does it stink, rotating the blocks is a trick in itself, and that stupid gost block (which can be turned off thankfully) can confuse you at points in the game. There's a soft and a hard drop, which totally sucks since if your on a roll and mistakenly press up on the D-Pad, guess what, you just screwed yourself over, because it instantly drops the block on the rest that you've already placed. Also, every level up you get, it clears the play field so that you get a fresh start, taking all the difficulty out of it other than trying to trick the bricks into fitting together with the sluggish controls. People with motion sickness need not apply with the annoying Block bounce effect (which can also be turned off).

-$29.99/10 (Real score 2/10)

Story: There's a story mode selctable from the start, but if there's an actual story to this game I sure haven't found it, and its Tetris so it shouldn't have a story, but the fact THQ tried to give it one is beyond me.

0/10

Audio/Video: Another pisser for me, the original and classic Tetris tunes are NO WHERE to be found in this hunk of junk. Althought this is one of the few games that takes advantage of the custom soundtrack option so you can program any and all the music you want.

2/10

Replayability: With absolutley nothing to unlock, there's nothing here, and with the gameplay problems, you won't want to replay it at all, or at least I didn't and I love tetris. Oh, if you want to count having a Tetris cube with a chefs hat or baseball cap replay value, then this is the game for you.

0/10

To buy or to rent?: Neither, do yourself a favor and stay far far away with this, or read my header and buy a GameBoy and the Original Tetris for gameboy, you will be so much better off. If your going to rent it, perhaps they didn't do such a horrible job on the PS2 or GameCube versions.

Final Verdict: Flame me if you wish, I'm just trying to help out those of you who are sitting on the fence on this one.

Final Score: 2/10
