Blinx: The Time Sweeper
Review by howard77
"I bought, with hesitation, Blinx! The time sweeper…the rest is history."
Blinx: I had the game on reserve for over a month prior to its release but, after reading gamespots review I had my doubts. I went down the next day a canceled Blinx on reserve and bought Hitman 2. Boy! What a mistake, returned Hitman 2 (3/10) and bought, with hesitation, Blinx! The time sweeper…the rest is history.
Presentation 10/10
From the start the game stands out as the best game on XBOX and I don’t say that lightly. I have played every game on XBOX this one presentation is by far the best. Lets take something small, the ability to restart (or if you die) a game in the middle without loosing what you entered the stage with... That may seem like a small thing until you play games that don’t let you do that. This game is set up to play each level a couple times just to find all the secrets and when your finish you go back just see if you can pick up more money or beat your best time.
Graphics 10/10
This game has the best graphics to date for XBOX, The color, and lighting and over all background is one of a surreal world. Halo move over! this game gives even you a run for your money. A MUST SEE.
Control 10/10
I not going to spend time telling you how the controls work (read other reviews) I am a 40 year old man and been playing games since 1978. I not as fast as I use to be but I still keep up with my 18 old son. I find the controls easy and fast to learn (unlike Mario). One of the most negative points I read about this game is the camera views, I love the way you can control the view and shoot at the same time and with time you will master the trash and bombs.
Sound 9/10
Music is good and the sound effects could use some improvement. Lets take the music, its sounds like disco on drugs. The sound effects are the only thing, which need improvement. Could be the same effects found on any game, boom, pop and meow…
Gameplay 10/10
I think game starts out with small worlds so you can get use to using the controls and camera view then it picks up around level 3. The key to this game is the use of the time crystals and using them freely during the game. What I mean, don’t save the crystals, use them, play them, have fun with them. Most people who give this game one day don’t use the crystals and don’t play a beyond level 2. Buying more retry and time holders is probably more important then upgrading the sweeper. That’s not to say that upgrading the sweeper is not important but less important then retry & time holders. The whole concept of the sweeper and picking up trash to destroy monsters is truly the best part of this game. The key is to pick up the trash (large/med/small) in the right order and use then on the correct monsters. “A must” buy upgrade to increase amount of trash blinx can hold any one time. The bombs, to some, are the worst part of the game but he who controls the bombs controls the game. At first I didn’t like the 10-minute time limit to finish each level but found, with out it, the game would loose its fast pace. I find with out the time limit it would I be wondering around looking for something to do like I do in Mario sunshine. While playing this game the first thing that hits you in the face…the game plays like no other game on the market.
Replay Value 10/10
The game is made to replay so…if you don’t like replaying levels then this game is not or you! The game has to be replay over and over and over.
Overall 10/10
The only thing I must say is “GAMESPOT! You let me down”. I haven’t played a game this addictive since HALO and that was a bad addiction. As you can tell by my review I’m not much for words, this is the best game since the first MARIO (remember that). If you are a fan of time and have lots of it to spend, then enter the world of BLINX the time sweeper…….
