Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Review by InitialXero
"FUN!"
Storyline/Sound: 8/10
The storyline is good for a game like this, but not that good. The storyline tells you more about what you have to do, more than the background of what's about to occur. The game is great and all but without a good background/prequel, what would it be like? Junk, at least I can tell you that much. With nice character selections and decent sounds the game isn't half bad.
---
Sound is pretty much the same as the storyline. The game goes perfect with the sounds, although there are a few setbacks that I'll discuss here:
1. The sound is straightforward and good for a game like this.
2. It can get annoying at times.
3. The game has too many background sounds that sound alike; So much for variety.
Other that those three setbacks the sound is your typical ''Diablo 2'' type of music. It's bad, but then still good all around.
Characters/Control: 10/10
This section is GREAT!! *thinks back to the old Tony the Tiger commercials*
Anyway, the characters in the game are all around good! I'm not saying just good, but spectacular. The variety in the characters is just simply amazing, I don't care how you put it. You go from Barbarians, to jesters, to knights, and so on and so forth. You can have a different color/race/name etc. It's just stupendous, and simply put: grand.
---
The control in Dark Legacy is great. Using spells is a given. You don't need to sit there smashing your thumbs and hyperextend your fingers to reach buttons or controls, simply press a button ''lightly'' and instantly you have your attacks set and weapons ready. Plain and simple, nothing to it. The buttons are easy to learn once you get the hang of it. It will take, on average, about 10-20 minutes to master the controls of the game if your play your very best. Great isn't it. Good game, I advise you to get it.
Graphics/Scenery: 9/10
As all other X-Box games, the graphics are always good, no matter what game you're playing. So, obviously you're thinking that this is just the run of the mill scenery, right? Wrong. The graphics are great. When you play the first stage you will be amazed by the scenery alone. If you don't mind realistic caverns, and houses that really stand up to the definition of ''haunted'' then you won't mind this. It's pretty much just backgrounds, and scenic routes that make you really scream ''AWESOME'', but other wise the graphics are pretty much covered.
---
Scenery on the other hand is good, but not great. If you've ever played a game like Castlevania, or something like that you'll know what I mean when I say the game is just pretty much ''dungeons and darkness''. That means that there isn't that many picture backgrounds of trees and different qualities like the sun and anything of that sort, but otherwise it's pretty much caves and things all the way through. This is why I gave it a 9, nothing but plain backgrounds. Other than that, it's great.
Replay Value: 8/10
There is one word that describes this section perfectly: Retreat. Retreat meaning that you should backtrack through levels that you have previously beaten, seeing as though many of the ''hidden characters'' can be obtained that way. It's a fun thing to do, not only mentioning that it gets you to be even stringer with your character. So much fun shouldn't be wasted. Who said that retreating couldn't have benefits? Good luck.
Buy or Rent:
Buy. If you rent this game your level of fun could be reduced to about 5% of the game, meaning that you won't even so much as enjoy this. This game is a game to be played, a true game to be played well.
Overall: 8/10
The game is good, but with the things I mentioned about the graphics and things, this game should already be in your console. ^_^;
Good game. I recommend that you buy it. You will get your money's worth if you do. Believe me. ^_~
