Robotech: Battlecry

"A very impressed fan of one of his favorite anime series"

I would like to start off by saying that this is my 2nd favorite game for the XBOX. just behind Halo(of course) and just in front of Jet Set Radio Future(didn't see that one did ya?)

Controls 10/10
I am not going to spend much time here at all. The controls are very simple. You move with the left analog, fire with X and B, change veritech modes with the d-pad, use special ability with the y button, a is you booster, and L 'n' R strafe. Simple enough... eh?

Story 10/10
''Stick with ma story''-Dave Chappelle in Half Baked. Just like our good friend Dave says this game sticks with the Robotech story. Alien forces drop the VF-1 on earth accidentally... they wait around... earth's smartest scientists fix it... then the Aliens want it back! You are an ace pilot(figures) named Jack. Your parents died during the Earth World War(don't ask) So you become a pilot and find that you can stop suffering while in the air... he eventually becomes a Soldier for Hire and EVERY army wants a hold of him. Eventually you get a letter in the mail inviting you to come to the showing of the very firsts Veritechs. Shortly after Earth is attacked and it is up to you(as well as the other veritech fighters) to save the world. I just ruined the entire first chapter for you... I sense I have gone to far!

Gameplay 10/10
Man... THE BEST PART. No other robotech game was fun... not even by a mile! That is why I dreaded this game. My parent(knowing my HUGE love for Robotech got this with the collectors set for christmas as well as my XBOX and HALO and...) You can change from all three of the veritech fighting modes. Each also has their own special ability. And the Enemy AI is very good. Dog fight are great. and Multiplayer is awesome! Up to 16 players(System link) can play all at once! For intense battles and great multiplayer... this is the game!

Graphics 9/10
This where the game shines... The backround are all done with 3D modeling... nothing new there. The Veritechs and other character models are all manga-shaded(cel-shaded done buy comic artists, it is new look for it in Gio Gio's Bizarre Adventure'PS2') It actually makes you think you are watching the anime... or for older people like myself... reading the comic book. It would have gotten a 10 in this area(and for the overall gameplay at that) if it weren't for one problem. About 1 in 5 of my friends say that they get headaches because the character models and the backrounds are rendered differently. I had this problem at first, but I got used to it.

Ah... my trademark section. Every game has its ''Cool'' point... right? Well I am here to point them out to you. Roy, Rick, and Minmei all return. All of you huge fans will remember them. They were all in the Robotech anime series and comicbooks. Roy was the original veritech pilot. Rick was the Skull One leader and main character of the series, and Minmei was Rick's girl. All of the old voice actors came back too. There are medals to earns. And Extras to unlock(I'm not telling look at the codes and secrets section)

Overall: 9/10
Rent or Buy
If you dont mind a headache worthy of a seizure for one day I highly suggest buying this. Robotech fans should get this just for the story. and Shooter fans should get this for the sheer fun of the game!
