Sega GT 2002
Review by ShrinaSoldier231
"I got this game free!!!"
INTRODUCTION
The story behind this game is. . .I got it for free!! It came with my X-Box. So I didn't actually go and buy the game. . . .well in a way I did. Although, while I had my X-Box in the layway, I did look into the game to see what scores it got and all. And I was actually getting pretty happy since I was going to be getting it, cause it seemed really good. And it actually is pretty good. The game came with Jet Set Radio Future, so it was a two pack. Although, I'm not going to review JSRF seeing how this review is going to be about Sega GT 2002! So let's see what's so good about this game!!
MUSIC
Ah, this is cool. See, you can put your own music in the game via your harddrive. There's only one downside to this, you see, I got tons of songs and the X-Box occasionally gets hung up on a song and plays it like crazy. Here's what happened to me, it played Rage Against The Machine's ''Testify'', then it played Drowning Pool's ''Tear Away'' and then it played ''Testify'' again! I was like, what the crap?? Now that's while your playing. At the selection screen, the music is pretty cool and not annoying. I'm going to give the music a 9 out of 10. 9/10
WHY?: The hang up
SOUNDS
The sounds are really good, almost perfect, but not quite. The only problem with the sounds are, the loudness gets excessive. I had the sound maxed out and the music maxed out, and I could barely hear the music! The engines were shutting out the music. And I prefer to hear my music over the engines. But other than that, the sounds are great. You can of course hear everything real well (lol). And that's about it. So I'm going to give the sounds a 9 out of 10. 9/10
WHY?: The engines get too loud
GRAPHICS
The graphics are really good. Although there's a major problem here. The cars look too much alike. See, I had picked this one car and sent it through the car mode and all of the cars looked like it. Three of them were painted different and the other two were painted like mine. I like variety in the races, not the same thing. The sun in the background when ever it's turning night can get annoying. Because it gets too bright. Now I know the sun can do that to you in real life, but on the game, that's just too much. But other than that, the tracks are designed very well and it's all good. So I'm going to give the graphics an 8 out of 10. 8/10
WHY?: The sun, not enough variety of cars in the races
CONTROLS
The controls are alright. There's really only one problem here, but that problem is major. You see, whenever you're driving, you go down through there and it's good. But then all of a sudden there's a curve and you're going off of it because you don't know the curve is coming. And when you can see it coming, you still go off the track because the steering is horrible. You always have to straighten your car up no matter what, even if you're going down a straight track, you still have to do that. Which really sucks. But other than that, the controls fit. But that problem that I just mentioned is going to kill the score quite a bit. So I'm going to give the controls a 6 out of 10. 6/10
WHY?: The steering
CAREER MODE
Since there is no story, I figured I'd throw in the career mode. The career mode is quite good. The career mode is actually referred to as ''Sega GT 2002 Mode''. But I'll just refer to it as ''Career Mode'', keeping it simple. Any way, here's what you have to choose from on the menu of the career mode: Official Race, Event Race, Car Shop, Parts Shop, Used Parts Shop, My Garage, and Save/Load. Here's a summary of the ''Official Race'': ''Place in the top 3 of each of the official races of a stage to earn a license (only in first season). Prize money for each race will vary according to the race result, while there is a special prize for finishing the race among the top 3.'' And here is a summary for the ''Event Race'': ''Enter an event race to earn special prizes and prize money like the official race. There are 6 races from each sponsor and 9 races eace with their own unique format.'' The ''Car Shop'', well that's obvious there, you just have a selection between more than twelve different car makers, and there's at least more than one hundred cars. The ''Parts Shop'' is where you can upgrade your car. And the ''Used Parts Shop'' has cheaper parts, but you don't have much of a selection going on for you. ''My Garage'' is where you can fiddle with your car and look at some rewards and pictures of you in the races. After you finish a race, you can take six pictures while they're showing the replay. But you can only keep one of the pictures, which I found that to suck a lot. Anyway, the ''Career Mode'' has a lot going for it. The races aren't all that difficult, which I'm glad of that. So I'm going to give the career mode a perfect score. 10/10
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay of this game is great. These are the things to do: Career Mode (Sega GT 2002 Mode, whatever), Quick Battle Mode, and Chronicle Mode. The career mode I've done explained. The ''Quick Battle Mode'' is just where you enter a race with a car and course of your choice. The ''Chronicle Mode'' is where you a select a classic car from the '70's through early 80's and you have to finish the race among the top 3 to advance to the next stage, if you don't, it's over. The ''Chronicle Mode'' is pretty cool. You have at least over 100 different cars to choose from and there's more than twelve kinds of car makers. So there's a lot to do in this game so it'll keep you busy. The game is fun and it's not all that challenging, which is a definite plus in my book. Because I don't like a car racing game that's hard. A little bit challenging makes it nice but when it's flat out hard, nuh uh, it's gone. So it's all good here. I'm going to give the gameplay a perfect score! 10/10
FUN FACTOR
Well like I done said, this game is very fun and not hard. And like I said, that's a big plus in my book. The only thing that makes the game not fun is when those curves come out of no where and when it's sometimes impossible to keep your car straight. But other than that, this game is very fun. I'm going to give the fun factor an 8 out of 10. 8/10
WHY?: Well the game is fun, no doubt. But the steering and when those curves come out of no where, it's just dumb.
REPLAY VALUE
Well this game will keep you busy for a long time with the ''Career Mode''. So that's a good thing. And that's basically all I got to say here. So I'm going to give the replay value a perfect score! 10/10
CONCLUSION
Music - 9/10
Sounds - 9/10
Graphics - 8/10
Controls - 6/10
Career Mode - 10/10
Gameplay - 10/10
Fun Factor - 8/10
Replay Value - 10/10
AVERAGE - 8.75
FINAL SCORE - 9/10
BUY or RENT?
Well basically, if you don't have an X-Box yet, you'll get this game if you choose to an X-Box. And if you do get an X-Box, you'll probably get the bundle pack that includes Jet Set Radio Future along with Sega GT 2002. But if you already have an X-Box, I do strongly suggest for you to buy this. Now if you're not much of a racing fan, I'd suggest rent it. That is all.
