Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Review by agentblue00
"Gauntlet is back and better than ever!"
Ok, first off, this game should only be enjoyed as multiplayer. Singleplayer is to much of a bore, and likewise, the challenges are subpar, but in multiplayer, this game is one of the best!
Graphics: 7/10
Gauntlet has great graphics, and when Death charges at you, its pretty creepy! The boss battles are great, and the mixture of enimies brings this game to life!
Sound: 5/10
Sound isn't very good in Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. For the most part, you hear hack sounds, and lots of grunts and groans. If you start to run out of health, a big, booming voice yells: ''Red Falcon needs food badly!'', or something to that effect. There could have been some real good battle music, but there isn't really anything here exciting. Ok, lets move on.
Challenge rating:7/10
Ok, challenge isnt much here. For the most part, you use the sword to kill the zombie/ghoul/Death. But in multiplayer, though, the more people you have playing, the more monsters you fight, and the harder it is to get experience. Killing bosses is really hard too. You have to make sure you have enough magic items, and the right levels to win. You have to share things evenly in this game, or nobody will win, and most of the time, your teamates are item hogs. Whenever this happens though, turn on team damage or team stun, so you can stun your partners before they get your rightful treasure.
Fun Factor: 7/10
Ok, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is one of the funnest games I have ever played. I played this on Arcade before I purchased it, and Gauntlet is still as fun as it was when I played it for the first time on NES. If you have a few friends over, and have the controllers to spare, then you will have a blast. If you don't, and you can only play singleplayer, then G:DL is pretty much a bore. You may not even want to bother with it if you only have one controller.
Final score: 8/10
G:DL is a great game to play, but the repetitive hack and slash, and the bland music busted my score down a notch. If you can enjoy multiplayer with it though, then you will have a good time. I would suggest renting G:DL though, because the length of the game isn't very long to begin with, and for the most part, this is more of an expansion to the original Guantlet for PSX.
