Nightcaster II: Equinox
Review by HackDemon
"Un-fun with One"
While going on a rent a game craze a while ago, This happened to be one of the ones i picked up. First reaction when i saw some screenshots and a little gameplay? Remake of Gaunlet Legends. Well for me, I had some good hopes with for how this game would turn out.
Gameplay: 9 of 10
Somewhat like an updated version of Gaunlet Legends with the abilities and the way you move around and attack enemies. You have different spells that you can use and change between different types of magic attacks as well. The bad part about this is that you have to find these rare upgrade spots that are scattered throught different areas of the levels. Another downfal is that it takes an awefully long time to level up and if you die..well. you loose a tremendous amount of experience points that you've gained before you died and if you are playing through the game by yourself, there's a great possibility that you might die quite often. This game is not just easier when playing with more than one person but it is a lot more entertaining. Time just flies by if you do.
Sound: 7 of 10
You won't hear much music in this game, especially if you're full of action and are always on the offense because while battling, the sound effects usually takes over the background music.
Graphics: 7 of 10
I compare the graphics of Nightcaster to an upgraded version of Gaunlet Legends with the same look and feel. This game isn't really made for the graphics but for the gameplay which most games should be about. I'm not sure if it is based off of a similar program that made arcade games but they do show their similarities.
Replay Value: 5 of 10
There isn't much of anything that i could remotely find to be considered replay value: Main thing to do is achieve the highest level possible and obtain as many of the magic spells you can as with most other games.
Overall: 7 of 10
I wouldn't put this anywhere near my top 10 but it is good fun to play with a group of friends. I wouldn't reccomend getting it if you plan on playing it at home on single layer. Also if you are sceptacle, just rent it for a few days and see how you like it. If i would have known that this game would be like this I would have just rented it myself also.
