Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
Review by gamecubegeek
"More of the same...and then some..."
I've beaten every tony hawk game from the first. Frankly, it's fun. Tony hawk 3 was IMO, the best of the series. However, I now have changed that to tony hawk 4. Now, I just have beaten this game on the xbox. Well...I have mixed opinions. On the one hand it is the same game from a few years ago, with a few tweaks. However it is still fun...hmm...oh...the conflict.
Graphics: 7/10
Now, don't get me wrong. The graphics are great. It's smooth (even on mulitplayer) but...well...it's...it's been done. (why...in tony hawk 3!). That doesn't mean it's bad, just built around the ps2 (see: identical). The only difference, is (for the most part) this game will run smoothly on multiplayer unlike the gamecube and playstation counterpart.
Sound: 10/10
Yea! Now we're talking. In my opinion, the tony hawk series has some of the best soundtracks. All the music is great. The grinds, wallrides, and everything else sounds perfect. Not only that, if you don't like the default music, you can upload you're own soundtracks (on the xbox verion only). The game has some good fast songs too to get you pumped up. The music rivals grand theft auto: vice city. Simply said, the sound, music, and everything else sounds perfect.
Gameplay: 8/10
Hmm...well, it is good. They have different goals that are very...well, unique. The way it works (different then previous tony hawks') is that you walk up to certain npc's and press the b button. Then, they tell you a goal and you do it. The system for the most part is better than the previous tony's. The levels are...well, massive. Yet, it is not without it's flaws. The game is mostly the same game a played a few years ago, ie: tony hawk: 3.
Replay: 6/10
With many things to unlock, a mulitplayer mode, create a skater, many skaters, huge levels, and a create a park, you would think the replay is pretty high. Well, sadly it gets old. While it may be fun for the first week or so, after that it will just collect dust.
Rent...or buy? : Buy
Well, in a few weeks it will be a platinum hit (20$,cheap!) and it's worth it. Keep in mind that this includes
-a create a skater
-create a park
-over 10 default skaters
-many levels
-custom soundtrack
-multiplayer
The game is not worth 50$ if you own tony hawk 3 so in my opinion, it all works out. To sum up everything: buy.
