Dungeons & Dragons Heroes
Review by Geist
"Dungeons & Dragons Heroes is an interesting game to put it best."
Dungeons & Dragons Heroes is an interesting game to put it best. It's nothing really too new story or game play wise, but it's still an interesting game. As with all of these type games and evil warlord who died 150 years ago is back and now our heroes (here's the new part of the same old story) must also come back from the dead and once again fight against the evil Warlord and save the world. It's a Diablo, Baldur's Gate clone to put it bluntly, but by allowing 4 players they also get the Gauntlet clone award, so that's three games for the price of one, if you want to look at it that way.
Graphics-6
Let's start with the best, which is the backgrounds. The backgrounds of D&D Heroes is amazing and beautiful. Sadly though it also looks like they've been ripped straight out of Baldur's Gate. Not a bad thing, but not very original either. As for the characters them selves I find them rather pathetically done my self. Seems to me that the Character models are throw backs from 4 years ago and really don't stand up well at all against the usual Xbox graphics. In fact they don't even stand up against D&D Heroes background graphics. All in all I feel a 6 is being a little too good, but the backgrounds disserve it.
Sound-5
I feel the sound of D&D Heroes was a true let down. There's barley any real in game music, at no point does it add to what's going on in the games, and truly just felt like a second hand thought. The weapon clashing and animalistic growls from your enemies are good, but not great. All in all a rather deplorable attempt. And the voice acting, if you can call it acting is pretty atrocious.
Story-3
With all that could be done with the D&D story lines I feel Atari really did even try. Basically as I stated before it's a very linear, weak story, that has been seen in hundreds of games over the years. If your looking for Tom Clancy go else where, If you looking for ''See Spot Run'' you found it.
Gameplay-6
The Gameplay is classic if not a little over done. Hack and slash at it's finest. You can use weapons, Magic and Items which is neat, but once again nothing new. The four characters all have there ups and downs, but you can basically make it through the game just pressing the attack button with any one you choose. Though I will give it credit for some nice boss battles.
Replay value-5
Replay is iffy at best on this little gem. Yes you can choose from four different characters, so in theory you can go through the game four times. However nothing will really changes, so it's the exact same game. Yes you can change the difficulty level, but that's not really making it a whole new experience. In my opinion, there is replay value, but it's a bit shallow.
Overall-5
Sadly this turned out to be just another clone. An unoriginal story line, lack lust graphics, and at best moderate replay value. Just another hack and slash game. Unless you’re a true D&D devote or are in need of a new Diablo/ Baldur's Gate style game, I say rent this before you buy.
