Otogi: Myth of Demons
Review by Lord Alchemy
"A solid hack and slash that will burn out your corneas"
I didn't see this one coming. But then again I should have, since it is Sega. All I can say, is this is worth a purchase. Now, time to break down my score.
Graphics: 10/10
Holy crap, this game looks nice. The graphics in this game are some of the best for the system, excellent frame rate comes attached as well. You will hardly ever see something in this game that doesn't please the eyes, or make you turn away before you cause permanent damage to your corneas.
Not only does this look nice, but environments are almost completely destroyable, either using your weapons, or smashing enemies into the battle field. Every time you smash an enemy into a wall, or the ground, they make a dent in that object, and a cloud of dust flies up around the crater. All I can say is, WOW. Nothing beats smashing up the environments using the enemies themselves.
Controls: 9/10
Perfect execution of the controls, minus the camera. The button layout is perfect, movement, attacks, jump, even double jumping are all easy to execute. This game hits a small road block with the haphazard camera. It isn't as bad as the camera in many games, in fact, its pretty damn good, but moving the camera to get it into the correct position is kind of slow. Feels like the camera is moving through some sort of thick sludge. Other then that minor gripe, everything is well for the controls.
Gameplay: 8/10
This is the score my review is really based upon, so don't get angry because the score is lower then the average of the three categories.
Anyway's, after getting that out of the way, the gameplay in this title is a lot of fun. But the basic hack and slash gameplay tends to get a little old. Magic in this game is cool, but pretty much useless, and through the whole game you will be using B,B,B,Y pretty much the whole time. Gets a little old, but it never really gets stale.
The options in this game are pretty nice, you level up as you complete missions, you unlock new spells, weapons, and other equipment. The different weapons are pretty nice, the magic just looks cool, and the other items usually add a nice stat or status boost. Also, the simple fact that you can double jump, brings back so many lost memories, and it is really cool!
Last Thoughts: Get this game! It is fun, and very much worth a purchase.
