Armed and Dangerous
Review by MagicalMonkeyMop
"The most funny game ever made. Period."
Armed & Dangerous
''Prologue'':
I was a huge Giants: Citizen Kabuto fan to begin with. It was an extremely funny game, with nice graphics and okay gameplay; and it was the first Planet Moon game I ever played. I liked the odd developer and when I saw that they were making a new game, I just had to play it. This new game is Armed & Dangerous, a game produced by Lucas Arts. Now, since you have already seen the score, I can tell you that I like this little game. But where did it score high and where did it score low? Read on to learn!
Graphics
Okay, this game is not the most pretty game out there....or not even in the same ballpark, but it's not bad at all. The levels are pretty plain looking, and the cinematics are no difference, however they get the job done and there is NO slowdown. This game has more brown coloring than any game in recent memory, and unless you love the color brown it's not a good thing. The graphics do shine with the weapons! Plenty of great looking weapon effects and some of the levels actually look kind of nice (the forest ones look sorta pretty). I give it:
7/10
Sound
Brilliant! The sound in this game is great! From the satisfying screams, to the satisfying crackle of machinegun firing and the exceedingly well acted dialog, the sound is up to par with any. The music is quite weird (like the rest of the game), it is filled with Bagpipes, Drums and Flutes; but it actually sorta fits. The dialog is funny and well acted as can be and the music is nice and noteworthy. I give it:
10/10
Script
This game's script is so good, I put it a category apart! It is extremely funny and quotable. I don't think there is a cutscene where I did not laugh- and even in-game it's great! If Monty Python came back together and made a game- this would be it. The script rivals the best comedy movies and is absolutely brilliant! I give it:
10/10
Gameplay
Ah yes, the gameplay. I think this is the only game where the script is by far the draw over the gameplay. As a matter of fact, the designers thought the same thing and made the gameplay only okay. Don't get me wrong though- the game is great fun for the first four or five times you play. But it gets repetitive very quickly (you will rescue tons of peasants, blow up 'bulls-eye' house and shoot more enemies than any game I have ever seen!). The gameplay consists of shooting, shooting, blowing stuff up, shooting, saving a villager or two, shooting, shooting and more shooting. The shooting however is fun, and it's fun to use the many unique weapons on enemies, which gives some points to the gameplay. The game itself also has a few ''defend the village'' levels, that are alot like Beachhead's, these levels are so great that I go back and play them again and again! The goal is just kill a whole bunch of enemies and not let a certain number get past your defenses; this might get boring except that there are hundreds and hundreds of enemies you gun down during these missions. I give it:
7/10
Replayabilty
This is the game's lowpoint, there is really no reason to go back except to grab all the unlockable tokens or play through one of the defend the base levels. Plus the game is fairly short, I beat it in two days during a rental. It was a fun two days- but I doubt I'll rent it again. It was a great- yet short lived- experience. The rating also continues to decrease due to that the game has no multiplayer, which is a really bad thing. I give it:
4/10
Ending Thoughts/ Rent or Buy?
Armed & Dangerous has a brilliant script, and some fun shooting. But it's too short and has too little replayability to mark it at as a purchase for some. Get it if you like laugh-out-loud writing and love shooting hundreds upon hundreds of enemies.
Rent/Buy? ....maybe....
