"OK FPS but bad hunting game"

If Cabela's Dangerous Hunts was the only hunting game I ever played, I would be writing a much better review for it. But I have been playing as many of these hunting games as I could get my hands on recently, and now I am singing a much different tune about this game.

Graphics: standard for the X Box with no disappointments. One of the better points of the game. Very believable.

Sound: Hard to rate, since it is pretty quiet out in the woods, but all in all I believed I was outside hunting. The gun, the animals and everything else was quite realistic. I liked the music, and I liked the voice of the warden that chimed in whenever you violated hunting laws or you needed rescuing. They even had a voiceover of a warden with an African accent for when you hunted in that area of the world.

Control: Best feature about the game. You can switch your weapons quickly and it has the normal console FPS feel to it. No problem with controls whatsoever.

Presentation: Some very cool features like a ''bullet cam'' that shows you the path that your bullet takes and you can see how close you make it if for some reason you miss the shot.

So you are probably wondering after having said all these nice things about the game that I only gave it a ''4''? I saved the killer for last............

Gameplay: A real disappointment. In other hunting games I had no problem walking up mountains but in this game you are stopped by a mere 30-40 degree incline. It might as well be a wall there. It feels like you are walking through a maze to find your quarry. This gives you a really limiting feeling. This alone ruins the game unbelievably and if this one fault was fixed I would have really loved the game. Then the other thing I could not stand is that it seems your hunter gets tired after running a mere 10 seconds. Come on, I am not in that bad a shape in real life!

I did enjoy battling it out up close with the dangerous animals, though. This is a feature that you won't find in too many games as you are shooting at endless amounts of deer that just run away from you when spotted.

Overall it was entertaining for a few days and then I unloaded it on ebay FAST.

If you own a PC then I recommend Trophy Hunter 2003 for a much more immersive and intelligent hunting experience.
