Tetris Worlds
Review by Atomsmasher
"A Tetris game you're better off avoiding..."
Ah, this is a Tetris game that you're better off avoiding altogether. There are tons of reasons why, but in this game, there are tons of possibilities. All that is in this game is in this review.
Gameplay 1/10
The gameplay is TERRIBLE! It is terrible because in this version of Tetris, you have a soft drop and a hard drop, meaning that the block can fall fast and not move or it can fall fast and barely move. There are tons of different types of Tetris, making it hard to remember what you are doing when you are playing. The background will serve to distract you more from the game than you would like, since just letting the pieces fall gives you a better chance of winning than trying to move them yourself.
Control 1/10
The control is backwards in this game... up is a hard drop and down is a soft drop. Sounds easy enough? Just wait until you realize how you move. How? By pressing the controller joystick left and right. It starts to get hectic when you reach the top of the grid and you only have a few seconds to move your piece to the left or right. You can't even customize your controls! Most of the buttons do nothing or the same function as another button.
Sound 10/10
May seem odd, huh? You can customize your own soundtrack to the game, but the default soundtracks are pretty great as it is. Try to freak your friends out as Outkast blares out your speakers.
Multiplayer 6/10
Here's something I've never seen before. They have a multiplayer mode, assuring you that the computer can't cheat on you and not your friend(s). Here's where the money really lies. Avoid the story mode, as the biggest prize you would get is a rumble from your controller.
Replay Value 2/10
There can't be any replay value if you can't play, right? I found that the only thing worth replaying is multiplayer, and I know that there are much better games in your library of games that have multiplayer enabled as well. At least you can play over the net. That should be fun and entertaining for the first 5 or so minutes.
Overall Score 3/10
This is not a Tetris game that you should buy, but if it strikes your fancy, go ahead and play. Stick to Tetris for Gameboy if you want to play a Tetris game. If you ever need the answer to who created Tetris and how it got to America, it's also in this game.
