Freedom Fighters
Review by oasisbeyond
"A great game for the right price $19.99"
Gameplay The game is a straight forward 3rd person shooter, but also features a simple but effective command system, you could give orders up to 12 other squad members. The AI of your team really is impressive in fact I'm willing to say it's the best I've seen, they will listen to your orders 99% of the time, and really follow you anywhere it's pretty amazing. To activate the behind the shoulder view you'll have to press and keep your thumb on the left analog stick, this sounds easy but really isn't, and there's no way to change the setup, it also has a few more glitches and you can't peek the corner while in this view. The game doesn't pause when you open your inventory, so when you try to give yourself a med kit you'll often die in the action. 8.5
Graphics Freedom fighters uses the same engine as Hitman 2 but looks a lot better overall. The level design is really good it represents New York really well, you'll see cars everywhere debris and other obstacles blocking your path, not to mention the statue of liberty and the Empire State Building. Enemies react differently depending of which part of their bodies get hit, Thanks to the rag doll psychics it's really fun watching the enemies fly in the air after shooting a grenade at them. Everything looks good from explosions, fire to the great lighting effects caused by your gun when you shoot. The game runs at a perfect 60 frames per second, even with 30 plus enemies there is absolutely 0 slow down. 8.5
Sound The sound effects in the game all sound great especially the guns and explosions, but there's no 5.1 surround sound:( The voice acting is a mixed bag, at first it starts kind of weak but then seems to get better the more you advance in the game, also Soviet soldiers speak in their native tongue. Jesper Kyd did an amazing job with Hitman 2 and does it again with Freedom fighters, winning multiple awards for this game, the music is a mix of orchestral, and techno, it really works well with all the action going on the game. 8.5
Replay Freedom Fighters is around 7 to 10 hours depending on the difficulty you play on. It has a multiplayer mode but really feels like it was rushed, an online feature would have been amazing on Xboxlive or ps2online. Like I said before the game has multiple ways to complete each mission, and has plenty of hidden areas you'll missed the first time through. Overall The game is kind of short but it's a blast all the way till the end, you'll be begging for more! 7.5
Overall Freedom Fighters was one of the most fun games I've played in a long time, it's a simple arcade 3rd person shoot' em up, with great level design and an amazing soundtrack, if your looking for a 3rd person shooter get Freedom Fighters it's a blast to play from beginning to end and now sells for $29.99 Can. 8.5
