The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition

"Is it worth the hype?"

Elder Scrolls III is one of the most overrated games I have ever played. When I heard all of the hype from this game, I expected an absolute totally addicting game, however, I didnt get this feeling at all. The game is very drawn out, and it took me 1 hour to pick flowers. I mean come one 1 hour of my life wasted because of flowers? If you have the time and patience to play a game of this massiveness, then this is the game for you. But I rather have games that get straight to the point. I understand how people can like this game, judging by all of the magic, real-time fighting, massiveness of the world, plenty of items, and plenty of things to do. And plenty is probably the biggest understatement of the year. However, here is the problem, there are too many things to do. I had no idea where to continue after my trek searching for flowers. If I wanted to pick flowers, I'd waste my time doing for my girlfriend, not in a video game. When I popped in this game, I expected something totally different, so I guess that was my problem from the start. I was expecting a game like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past...but I know no I was terribly mistaken. I spent over 30 minutes just deciding what character I was and my name and my personality and what not. This is not a bad thing but when I died without saving I had to do it all again. Another problem is plainly I didnt understand what was going on or how to do things.

The graphics are very good, and the its probably the biggest game ever (not too sure, but it definately ranks up there. Especially with the Game of the Year Edition. The textures are nice, and so is the massive, forests, fields, etc, etc...

The Controls, felt very awkward to me. I needed the manual as a continuous guide because I was clueless on how to do things.

The Sound is good for what it is... little spoken words, but nice scenic sounds, of the nature of the massive world. (Hopefully you understand the massiveness by now) You can actually hear the trees, listen to the animals, and hear streams flow through. Also, the music is good at representing the feel of where you are at the game.

Replay value is probably bad, but I know that you cant finish everything the first time through. However, I cant see anyone with enough time on the hands to go through this game twice. No multiplayer which is a disappointment.

So overall, this game is an excellent game for its target audience. Sadly, I dont fit in the target since I am a fan of games where things happen one after the other. I'm sure if I gave the time to spend playing the game, I could enjoy it and see it the way everyone I know sees it.

But for now, my Morrowind is collecting dust under my NBA Live 2002...
