Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Review by longlivelubu
"The return of the not so charming prince."
Wow, is all I can say about Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. I am very impressed with the game overall. The game basically takes place with prince learning about the "unstoppable beast" the Dahaka is after him for opening the sands of time in Prince of Persia: Sands of time. So our at one time lovable prince makes a plan to go speak with the Empress of Time so he can prevent the sands of time from being made so the Dahaka will stop chasing him. Seems reasonable of course. Of course because the empress knows Prince is coming she has her castle designed with Saws on the walls and ropes and ledges and oddly placed doors that ONLY he can get to.
The game does a good job of teaching you the new combat skills, which I might add are far FAR superior to the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. You can do numerous combinations I think sometimes it's hard to decide what you want to do next, but it's all in the glory of fun. There are single weapon combos, and double weapon combos, and there are single to double in which you jump over the enemy and then you steal his weapon and cut him in half with it. Which is another thing I like about the game. Personally I like the gore perfectly, because it's gore but not TOO gory. I mean sure cutting the head off is gory, but more sand than blood comes out. Overall the gore effects are nice. I like splitting them in 2 vertical halves, or cutting their heads off, however sometimes you will notice when you do regular attacks after jumping over them if you slash horizontally they will split vertically, but overall the combat is really impressive.
The new darker look is cool I think but I don't like Princes darker look I do enjoy the castle in this one more then Prince of Persia Sands of Time. Princes new attitude is kind of annoying, making interesting battle cries but overall I enjoy the darker castle but not the darker prince. You know what they say Girls dream about the bad guys, but they go home with the good guys."
There are a couple of segments of the game where you get chased by the Dahaka and it's really fun because you have to do the typical Prince of Persia acrobatics really fast or he will catch you. I loved these parts because they were really fun to watch as well as do. A BIG disappointment is however the "unstoppable" dahaka does have a weakness...water. And just so happened the Empress of time liked to put waterfalls that are exact length of the doorways so the Dahaka can't get you, awfully kind of her I think.
The Music in the game is good if you do like rock, I happen to like rock so I think it goes well with the game and the action in the game, and all the sound effects seem to pan out just right, The voice acting does go well with the game, but still I miss the charming prince, and I think Shadee has the best voice :P
Overall Prince of Persia Warrior Within is a great game, that I could recommend to anybody that loves action games, it is a lot longer than Prince of Persia Sands of Time, and I think it is overall harder than PoP SoT, it has a good story, some neat plot points, so I give this game an 8 for gr8 :D
