Def Jam: Fight for NY
Review by TehShowstoppa
"Best fighting game I've ever played on the X-box!"
Ok, I never played the original Def Jam game on Gamecube or PS2, being a fan of rap music I went off to buy the game back in September, I didn't really get used to the controls until after 30 minutes where I executed my first blazing move by BustaRhymes. It was ****in' great! The story mode is really great too but I'll get on that later...
Graphics: 8/10.
Excellent graphics, the details on Joe Budden's face tells the story of how great these graphics are, It really shows the advantage of the X-box, Hell, even you created character in Story Mode looks good, The level backgrounds however, don't look as good as the Char models....Sooo...I'll bring it down to an 8.
Controls: 5/10.
The controls tend to be quite hard in every fighting game right...? Well this one is no exception. Though you will get used to it after 25-45 minutes...or even more than an hour. I won't go into detail on how you control your character or anything but (A) Lets you grapple, (A) + (L) lets you do a Strong Grapple...(Y) lets you punch and (B) lets you kick your Opponent, Ofcourse The (Y) and (X) buttons can be used with the (L) button to do more damage or even knock out your Opponent ****less.
Gameplay: 9/10.
When you pop this game in and start your first battle with Method Man or w/e you can really tell that the Game designers put some work on this game to make it the Best Fighting game ever IMO, The gameplay really is that great and you should be havin' no Flaws whatsoever with the Fighting Engine used in this game, Aki developed the fighting engine and remember Also that Aki Developed the second greatest WWE game ever, No Mercy on the Nintendo64 (Tied behind WWE:Smackdown HCTP) So the fighting engine is really great, There are also fighting styles for each char, KickBoxing, Wrestling, Martial Arts & Street Fight & Submission. Some might even have 2 And it is possible to have 2 in Story Mode where you'll train your char to become the best fighter ever, gameplay gets a coveted 9.
Sound: 10/10.
EXCELLENT. OUTSTANDING. FANTASTIC Sound effects in the game! Excellent Raps by Budden, Redman, SnoopDogg as well as other Dj artists, and the sound effects can really tell you that the other guy is getting the beating of his life, Awesome.
Replay Value: 7/10.
Only story mode, thats it, That's the only replay value your gonna get which is quite sad...Considering that this is an 80%+ game.
Difficulty: 7/10.
Not that hard of a game, which is ok to Me, as a gamer cuz I hate playing games that are too hard like Star Wars:KOTOR, how the hell is that GOTY? Anyway, Story Mode is whats difficult so you better start reading the Faqs before getting started.
Lifespan: 8/10.
Quite a long game if you think about it. Having to unlock all the modes and the 70+ characters! And there's also story mode! o.O;
Overall: 8/10.
Solid game, In my own opinion I can say that this is the best fighting game I have ever played and trust me, I played alot of good fighting games. Peace out Fo' Sho' Mo' Fo' ;)
