Review by bullet sword

"This actually deserves a medal of honor. Huh? What did I say? Oh. This game is good."

Intro.

World War 2 is once again, defined in video game form. Not everything is historically perfect, but you will enjoy this for some time. In the war that changed the world, you get change it here.

Story: 7/10

World War 2. That's the story. You are an American soldier in the middle of the war against the Germans. Your skills are good, so you end up going into some pretty tough business. When you think of World War 2, you think of fighting alongside other allies. Yes and no at the same time. In some parts, you fight alone, which makes this a simple "one person 1 vs everybody else" kind of a shooting game.

Game-play: 7.5/10

You begin on D-Day. After you get off of your transport, the chaos begins. So you simply run around and shoot people with guns. We are talking about World War 2 here, so all of these guns are old fashioned. Like all games with guns, you have ammo supply. It not very hard to use up all your ammo. There are so many extra bullets to pick up. If you just like to shoot at the wall when nobody else is around, you will indeed run out, but there's a lot of ammo to find. You will never find yourself walking around with no ammo at all unless you start with no ammo.

This is definitely not a "kill them, then exit the level" game. You have objectives to clear. They are pretty easy, but you might find yourself going too far. Since that the whole stage is free for you to roam in, you can run around without completing your objectives, so you might miss your goal. It gets frustrating, but you can always call your HQ for tips and hints. Some objectives are simply looking for things or planting bombs and possibly freeing some guy who is on your side of the war.

You will be able to help out your allies, but there is no friendly fire, so don't even waste a bullet at your pals. But your enemies can kill them. Allies can be a little helpful, but sometimes they get in your way. This is war. You are supposed to fight alongside your allies like real war. Yeah, you can do that, but there are some levels that are just plain solo. It's not that bad since you already do most/all of the work. Speaking of allies, you might see some other people who are working for the enemies, but they are really fighting for you.

I forgot to mention that you also have some grenades. Remember those thin stick grenades? Yep they are here as well as the old green hand grenade. I was surprised that when I threw a grenade at some other dude's foot, he picked it up and threw it back at me! Gosh. This taught me a lesson that I should never throw grenades, so I just stuck to gunning.

Well, the good things are the weapons. The arsenal of weapons are not very big because the game is trying to keep this as real as possible. The enemies are smart and the battles. Oh, they are so dramatic. You actually feel like you are there. Well, not totally. But it's pretty darn dramatic. Blend this in with the music and every fight is a fight to remember...

Sound (not music): 8/10

Love those gunshots. That's all you will be hearing for the game. Don't forget that there are other people. Your allies will shout orders, scream, or die with their last little yelp. Since that you are fighting in foreign territory, you will hear some other languages. Thankfully, we have subtitles that translate some of it. The sounds are pretty good but wait until you hear the music.

Music: 10/10

The music grips you. It makes you feel a little emotional. Once you start listening to the music, it might not seem like a game anymore. It starts to feel like war. There are some army themes and some action packed themes, but once the music starts playing for the level, it will never change, so the same song will keep repeating itself. Now, the real good music is the ones that may have some sadness in it. The slow ones. It starts to make this game turn even more alive that it already was. Just stop and listen. War truly comes alive. You can even choose what music you want for your multi-player battles.

Control: 7/10

It may take some time to get used to it. Just keep pressing the right trigger if you want to kill something. After you spend a lot of time with the controls, you will get the hang of it.

Multi-player: 7/10

Not as good as single player. For some reason, it just doesn't feel right. It's still good enough to invite 3 other people over for a death-match. There are plenty of characters to choose from. More than just plenty. Most (or probably all of them) of the characters are somewhere in the single player levels. You even get to play as an old lady! As for the maps, they are fine and look similar to some areas in single player. Like I mentioned earlier, you can choose the music you want to use during the battle.

Overall: 7/10

War. It feels fun, but with music like this, it starts to feel like it is truly alive. Next time you are planning to rent a game, get this. I don't feel like this game is a "must buy" because it may get a little boring later on. Of course, if you like shooting, try this.
